PSA: State and Federal Tax Systems Are Completely Separate - Stop Asking IRS About State Taxes!
Federal and state taxes are totally separate systems. The IRS cant help with state tax questions and state revenue offices cant help with federal tax issues. Been seeing way too many posts mixing these up lately. Save yourself time and call the right agency.

This is absolutely correct. I process tax returns and the number of people who try to call the IRS about their state refund is staggering. Each state has its own Department of Revenue or Treasury that handles state taxes independently of the federal system.

Side note: Even tax preparers like HR Block submit state and federal separately. Its two completely different processes.
