Need help with IRS tax extensions for multiple years (2016, 2023, 2024) and owed taxes - overwhelmed!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle here. I need to file for tax extensions for multiple years - 2023, 2016, and even 2024 (yeah, I know, I'm thinking ahead). Plus, I gotta request an extension for some taxes I owe. Anyone been through this before? Any tips on how to navigate this mess with the IRS? I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed right now.

Woah, that's a lot to handle! I've dealt with extensions before, but not for multiple years like that. Have you tried calling the IRS directly? They might be able to guide you through the process.

•Yeah, I've been trying to call them for days now. It's like trying to win the lottery just to get through to a human 🙄

Listen up, I've been down this road before and I've got some advice for you: 1. File Form 4868 for the current year (2023) extension. This gives you until October 15th to file. 2. For 2016, you're gonna need to file a past due return ASAP. No extension available for that far back. 3. 2024? You can't file an extension for a future year. Wait until next year for that. 4. For the taxes you owe, include a payment with your extension request if possible. This'll help avoid penalties. 5. Use the IRS Free File if your income is below $73,000. 6. Consider getting professional help if you can afford it. This situation sounds complex. Remember, filing an extension only gives you more time to file, not more time to pay. Good luck!

•Wow, thank you so much for this detailed breakdown! This really helps clear things up. I didn't realize I couldn't file an extension for 2016 - guess I better get on that ASAP.

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at the IRS. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/bA59vpIwDRU

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

•Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

Have you considered using tax preparation software? Some of them have features to help with extensions and past due returns. Might be worth looking into.

•That's a good idea, I'll check it out. Any specific software you'd recommend?

•I've had good experiences with TurboTax and H&R Block. They both have options for more complex situations like yours.
