Need help filing IRS complaint & tax extensions for multiple years (2023, 2016, 2022) - any advice?
Hey everyone, I need some advice. I'm trying to file for tax extensions for multiple years (2023, 2016, and 2024) and also request an extension for owed taxes. But now I'm having issues with an IRS agent and I want to file a complaint. Has anyone gone through this process before? What's the best way to handle this situation?

Oof, dealing with the IRS is never fun. Here's what you need to do to file a complaint against an IRS agent: 1. Document everything: Write down all the details about your interaction with the agent, including date, time, and their name if you have it. 2. Call TIGTA: That's the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration. Their number is 1-800-366-4484. 3. Submit a written complaint: You can mail it to the IRS at their complaints address in Washington, DC. 4. Use Form 14157: If you think there was misconduct, fill out this form. 5. Follow up: Keep track of any responses you get. As for your tax extensions, you might want to handle that separately. Good luck!

•This is really helpful, thanks! Have you gone through this process yourself?

•Yeah, unfortunately I have. It's a pain, but it works if you're persistent.

•Just wondering, how long did the whole process take for you?

•It took about 3 months from start to finish. The waiting is the worst part tbh.

I feel your pain, OP. The IRS is a nightmare to deal with. I've been trying to get my 2021 refund for over a year now. 🤦♂️

•A year?! That's insane. Have you tried contacting your local Taxpayer Advocate Service?

•Yeah, I did. They're "working on it" but I'm not holding my breath. 🙄

Quick question - why are you filing an extension for 2024? That tax year hasn't even started yet.

Guys, I found a method to actually get someone on the phone at the IRS. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/bA59vpIwDRU

•Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work?

•It does! I was skeptical at first too, but I got through to an agent in about 2 hours. Saved me a whole day of being on hold.

•$20 seems steep just to make a phone call...

•I thought so too, but considering how much time it saved me, it was worth it. Your time is valuable too, ya know?

Have you considered hiring a tax professional to handle this for you? They can often navigate the IRS maze better than we can.

Just a heads up, filing an extension for 2016 might be tricky. There's usually a 3-year limit on claiming refunds or credits. You might want to check with a tax pro about that specific year.

•Oh no, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info! I'll definitely look into it.

Has anyone else noticed that the IRS seems to be even more backed up than usual lately? I've been waiting on a response for months now.

•Yeah, I heard they're still dealing with a backlog from the pandemic. It's a mess.
