Ugh, I just went through this nightmare last month. It's such a pain in the ass. Make sure you have ALL your documents ready before you start - social security card, birth certificate, driver's license, etc. And be prepared to wait on hold for hours 🙄

•Hours? Try days! I swear I spent half my life on hold with these people 😫

•Pro tip: call first thing in the morning when they open. You'll still wait, but not as long.

•Thanks for the advice! I'll make sure to gather everything beforehand. Any specific number I should call?

I found a way to get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/bDXD2SD0gGk

•Sounds too good to be true. Has anyone else tried this?

•20 bucks? Idk man, seems kinda steep just to make a phone call.

•I get the skepticism, but honestly, it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

•Can you give more details about how it works? Do they just keep calling until they get through?

•Yeah, basically. They have some automated system that navigates the phone tree and waits on hold. When a real person picks up, it calls you. Pretty slick tbh.

Here's a comprehensive guide to verifying your identity with the government: 1. Gather all necessary documents: - Social Security card - Birth certificate - Driver's license or state ID - Proof of address (utility bill, lease agreement, etc.) - Any additional documents specific to your situation 2. Visit the official government website for identity verification. Make sure it's .gov domain! 3. Create an account if you haven't already. 4. Follow the step-by-step process on the website. This usually involves: - Entering personal information - Uploading scanned copies of your documents - Answering security questions 5. If online verification fails, you'll need to schedule an in-person appointment. 6. Be patient! The process can take several weeks. Remember, never share personal info over unsecured channels. Good luck!

Quick question - does anyone know if a passport counts as a valid form of ID for this process? My driver's license just expired and I'm waiting on the renewal.

•Yep, passport should work. It's actually better than a driver's license in most cases.

PSA: Watch out for scams! There are a lot of fake 'identity verification' services out there trying to steal your info. ONLY use official .gov websites!

lol good luck OP. I've been trying to verify my identity for 3 months now. Every time I think I'm done, they ask for something else. It's like playing bureaucracy whack-a-mole 🙃
