Need IRS to send Letter of Indemnity to bank - Help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I need the IRS to send a Letter of Indemnity to my bank. Has anyone gone through this process before? Any tips on how to make it happen smoothly? I'm not even sure where to start.

Ugh, dealing with the IRS is always a headache. I had to get something similar done last year. Here's what worked for me: ⢠Gather all your account info (both IRS and bank) ⢠Call the IRS and explain clearly what you need ⢠Be prepared to wait on hold FOREVER ⢠Follow up with your bank to make sure they got it Good luck, OP! You're gonna need it š

ā¢Thanks for the advice! Did you have to provide any specific forms or documents when you called?

ā¢Not really, just had my tax info handy. But every situation is different, so be prepared for anything!

I found a way to get someone on the phone without waiting forever. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. ā¢I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration.

ā¢I get the concern, but they don't keep your number. It's just to forward the call. Totally legit!

have you tried faxing the request? Sometimes old school methods work better with government agencies š¤·āāļø

Oof, letters of indemnity are a pain. Make sure you specify EXACTLY what you need it for when you talk to the IRS. They messed mine up twice before getting it right š¤¦āāļø

ā¢Yikes, that's good to know. Did you have to pay for each attempt?

ā¢Nah, they corrected it for free. But it took WEEKS each time. So frustrating!

Pro tip: if you can't get through on the main IRS line, try calling your local Taxpayer Advocate Service. They might be able to help or at least point you in the right direction.

Whatever you do, DON'T mention anything about audits or past due taxes when you call. Stick to the letter of indemnity request only. Trust me on this one š

Based on my experience, here's what I'd recommend for getting that Letter of Indemnity: 1. **Call early in the morning** (like 7-8 AM) - wait times are usually shorter 2. **Have your EIN/SSN ready** plus the exact bank routing/account info 3. **Be super specific** about what the letter needs to say - the IRS reps aren't mind readers 4. **Get a case number** for your request so you can reference it in follow-ups Also, some banks have specific forms they want the IRS to use, so check with your bank first about their requirements. Saved me a lot of back-and-forth when I had to do this for a business account issue. The whole process took about 2-3 weeks for me, but that was with one revision needed. Good luck! š¤

ā¢This is super helpful! @StarSurfer Do you remember what specific info your bank needed included in the letter? I'm worried about getting it wrong and having to start over š¬
