Jackson Hewitt Filers - Anyone Received Their Refund Yet? Status Updates?

I'm trying to track the status of my refund after filing with Jackson Hewitt this year. I've had to amend some paperwork and now I'm getting concerned about delays. • Filed through Jackson Hewitt on March 12, 2024 • Had to submit an amended return on April 2 due to missing 1099 information • WMR tool still shows "Return Received" status • Transcript shows processing code but no completion date • Jackson Hewitt rep said "it's in the IRS system" Has anyone else who filed with Jackson Hewitt received their refund yet? Particularly interested in hearing from people who had to amend their returns. • What's your current status? • How long did it take? • Did you have to contact the IRS directly?

According to IRS Publication 1345 (Rev. 1-2024), when you file an amended return (Form 1040-X), the standard processing time extends to 16 weeks from the date the IRS receives it. This timeline is specifically outlined in Section 6.2 of the current IRS processing guidelines. Given that you amended on April 2, you should expect processing to continue until at least late July. The "Return Received" status on Where's My Refund is completely normal at this stage, as amended returns follow a different processing pathway than original returns.

I had a similar situation with Jackson Hewitt last year. My amended return took approximately 14 weeks to process according to the IRS Amended Return Status tool. The important distinction is that you need to use the "Where's My Amended Return" tool rather than the standard WMR tool, as they track different systems within the IRS processing framework.

This is probably correct, but my experience was a bit different. I submitted an amended return in February and it's still not fully processed. The IRS seems to be particularly backed up this year with amended returns. I've called twice and both times they basically said "it's in the queue, just keep waiting." So frustrating, especially when you're expecting a substantial refund.

Have you tried checking your transcript through taxr.ai? I was in a similar situation with my amended return and couldn't make sense of all the codes on my transcript. I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my tax transcript and it actually explained what each code meant for my specific situation. It even gave me an estimated completion date based on the current processing patterns. For amended returns, it was really helpful since it showed which parts were still being processed vs. completed. Might be worth checking out while you wait!

Is this really worth the time though? My amended return is like watching paint dry - I'm on a deadline to get this money for summer tuition. Would this actually speed anything up or just tell me what I already know - that I'm stuck waiting for the IRS to get around to my paperwork?

I was skeptical too, but it actually helped me understand what was happening with my amended return. Last year I filed with Jackson Hewitt and had to amend because they missed entering a 1099-R. The transcript had all these codes that made no sense to me, but the analysis broke it down and showed me exactly where my return was in the process. It didn't speed up processing, but at least I knew what was happening instead of just anxiously checking WMR every day.

I understand your frustration with waiting. Let me walk you through how it helped me: 1) I uploaded my transcript, 2) It identified all the codes and explained them in plain English, 3) It showed me which specific parts of my amended return were still processing, 4) It gave me a realistic timeline based on current IRS processing patterns. While it didn't make my refund arrive faster, it gave me peace of mind knowing exactly what was happening and when to reasonably expect my money.

Thanks for sharing this! I've been comparing my experience with H&R Block to what others are saying about Jackson Hewitt, and it seems like the amended return issues are happening regardless of which tax preparer you use. Might check out that transcript analyzer since the IRS website is so cryptic.

I might be able to provide some insight, though I should note that each case can be somewhat unique. I filed with Jackson Hewitt on February 28th and received my refund on March 17th. However, I did not have to amend my return, which likely explains the difference in our situations. Amended returns typically follow a separate processing track that, from what I understand, can take considerably longer than standard returns. The IRS systems may not show accurate status updates for amended returns through the normal channels.

I was in exactly your situation on April 15, 2024, after filing with Jackson Hewitt and needing to amend my return. After waiting 3 weeks with no updates, I tried calling the IRS directly but couldn't get through after 7 attempts over 2 days. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 23 minutes. The agent confirmed my amended return was received and in processing, but also noted there was a small issue they could fix on the call. If you're concerned, it might be worth getting confirmation directly from an IRS representative rather than just waiting.

OMG be super careful w/ amended returns! I filed w/ Jackson Hewitt last yr and had to amend bc they missed a W2. Took FOREVER (like 19 wks) and then got a letter saying they needed more info. Turns out JH didn't attach all the right forms. Had to go back to the office twice to get it fixed. Make sure u have copies of EVERYTHING they submitted. Might wanna double check ur amended return was filed correctly before waiting months to find out there's a prob.

Just to clarify - are you checking the regular Where's My Refund tool or the Where's My Amended Return tool? They're completely different systems. The regular WMR won't update for amended returns at all. You need to use the specific amended return tracker (which, ironically, is even less informative than the regular one... tax season joy!

According to the IRS.gov website under "Where's My Amended Return," the current processing time for amended returns is approximately 20 weeks, though many people in the community have reported longer waits. The Jackson Hewitt customer satisfaction forums show multiple threads about amended returns taking longer this year than in previous years. I was surprised to learn how complicated the amended return process is - it's not just a simple correction but a completely different processing pipeline within the IRS system.

Jackson Hewitt customer here. Filed February 15. Amended March 10. Got partial refund April 2. Still waiting on amended portion. Called IRS twice. They confirmed receipt. Still processing. Expected timeline is 16-20 weeks from amendment date. Your timeline sounds normal. Patience required.

I would strongly caution against expecting this to resolve quickly. Based on my experience with amended returns, the actual processing time is averaging exactly 22.5 weeks right now, not the 16 weeks the IRS claims. I filed with Jackson Hewitt on January 29, 2024, had to amend on February 12, 2024, and I'm still waiting. When I finally reached an IRS agent on June 3, they informed me that amended returns filed in February are just now being assigned to processing agents. The backlog is substantial and there are precisely 3 stages your return must go through: validation, review, and resolution. Each can take 4-8 weeks.

This is really helpful information! I'm a first-time filer with an amended return and didn't realize there were specific stages the IRS uses for processing. The IRS website doesn't explain any of this in the FAQs.

Do you think it makes a difference if the amendment was for adding income versus claiming an additional credit? I'm wondering if one type of amendment gets processed faster than another?

The 22.5 week timeline matches what we're seeing across the board. I work with tax clients and every amended return this season is taking at minimum 20 weeks. The IRS is severely understaffed in the amended return department.

Has Jackson Hewitt offered any support with tracking your amended return? I'm considering using them next year but I'm worried about their customer service if issues come up. Do they help you communicate with the IRS or are you on your own after filing? 😟
