Why is there a 2024 Verification of Non-Filing Letter in my IRS transcript account when we're still in 2023?

Just checked my IRS transcript account at 3:22 and noticed something weird in my transcript list. When I look at the "Available transcripts" section, at the very top I'm seeing a "2024 Verification of Non-Filing Letter [PDF]" listed first, followed by Return Transcripts for 2023, 2022, and 2021. When I click on the letter, it clearly states that "the IRS does not have a record of a processed tax return as of the letter's date" and specifically mentions that "Either no tax return was filed for this year or your tax return is still being processed." This seems really strange since we're not even supposed to file 2024 taxes yet - we're still in 2023! I can see all my other years show normal Return Transcripts with the "EN" designation next to them, including 2023, 2022, and 2021. Plus I can also see my Wage & Income transcripts listed at the bottom of the available transcripts. Is it normal to see a Non-Filing Letter for a future tax year like this? The interface literally shows "2024 Verification of Non-Filing Letter [PDF]" with an "EN" next to it, above all my other transcript years. Should I be worried about this? Is this just how the system displays future years, or could someone be trying to file a fake return for 2024 using my information?

The IRS transcript system is showing exactly what we'd expect to see for your account. The Verification of Non-Filing Letter for 2024 appears at the top of your transcript list because it's the most recent tax year in the system. This letter automatically generates for any year where there isn't a processed return - which is completely normal for 2024 since we're not even in the filing period for that tax year yet. Your transcript list displays in chronological order, showing: - 2024: Non-Filing Letter (normal for a future tax year) - 2023-2021: Return Transcripts (indicating properly filed returns) - Wage & Income information The [PDF] indicators next to each entry show these documents are available for download. The "EN" notation indicates these are in English language format. The presence of Return Transcripts for 2021-2023 confirms your recent tax returns have been properly processed and are on file with the IRS. The 53% indicator in your screenshot likely refers to your device's battery level and isn't related to your tax information.
