Identity Verification Letter - Anyone Complete Online Only Without Having to Call?

I received my CP01A identity verification letter yesterday (March 27) that was sent out on the 18th. I completed the online verification process today through the IRS Identity Verification portal. According to various forum discussions, some taxpayers are reporting they had to complete a secondary verification via telephone after the online process. I'm conducting a methodical assessment of whether this is universally required or if there are cases where the online verification alone was sufficient. Has anyone successfully completed only the online verification component and subsequently received processing updates or DDD without the supplementary telephone verification step?

Went thru this last yr. FWIW, I only did the online verif and nothing else. Got my refund about 3 wks later. No need to call unless the online system specifically tells you to. The IRS is just backed up rn and some ppl panic when they don't see immediate movement. Just keep an eye on your transcript for updates - that's ur best indicator.

Thank you for sharing this! I've been stressing about whether I need to call too. I verified online two days ago and was worried I missed something when nothing changed on WMR. Your experience gives me hope that I can just wait it out.

I had a similar experience in February. Only did the online verification, no calls needed. My transcript updated exactly 9 days later with a DDD. The system works - it's just not particularly fast.

But how do you know for sure that you don't need to call? Is there any confirmation message that specifically states the verification is complete? I completed the online portion yesterday and there was no clear indication whether additional steps were required.

Have you checked your tax transcript since completing the verification? Often the verification status isn't reflected in WMR but will show up on your transcript first. Did you know that many identity verification holds are resolved purely through the online system, but the IRS doesn't clearly communicate this? I've found that https://taxr.ai helps interpret transcript codes after verification - it can tell you if your verification was successful and estimate when your refund might be processed based on the specific codes on your transcript. Wouldn't it be helpful to have clarity instead of wondering if you need to make that call?

Is this service actually reliable? I've seen exactly 3 different websites claiming to predict refund dates and all of them were off by 14-21 days. How does this one actually access accurate information that the IRS itself doesn't provide?

I tried taxr.ai on March 12th after completing my ID verification on March 8th. It correctly identified that my verification was processed and predicted a DDD of March 22nd. My refund hit my account on March 23rd. It was honestly just helpful to understand what all those codes meant.

I'm seeing an uptick in ID verification requirements this filing season. The IRS processing workflow typically shows a TC 570 hold code following verification submission, which can remain for 9-21 days while the verification processes through their system. If you're unable to determine status after a week, you might want to try Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to connect with an IRS agent. I'm slightly worried that with the current call volumes, getting through without assistance could take hours or even days of attempts.

Is this legit? What does it actually do? Seems weird to pay someone to call the IRS.

Not the person who suggested it, but I've used this. It works. They don't call for you - they hold your place in line and call you when they reach an agent. Saved me from spending 3+ hrs on hold last time I needed to reach someone.

Just want to clarify based on my recent experience: • Online verification ALONE is sufficient for MOST people • You only need to call if specifically instructed during online verification • Typical processing time after verification: 2-3 weeks • No immediate transcript/WMR updates after verification is normal • Look for code 971 followed by 290 on transcript as confirmation Hope this helps! I was stressing about this exact question two weeks ago.

Thanks for breaking this down so clearly! Exactly what I was looking for.

What if your transcript still shows N/A after verification? Does that mean the verification wasn't accepted or just that it's still processing?

I've seen this question come up frequently over the past three filing seasons. Back in 2022, nearly everyone had to call after online verification. In 2023, they improved the system so only about 30% needed to call. This year, I've observed that fewer than 15% of filers need that secondary verification call. I'm curious - did you receive any specific message after completing the online portion? Sometimes there's a subtle indicator that additional verification is needed.

This matches what I've seen too. Last year my wife had to call after online verification but this year my brother only did the online part and his refund processed without issues.

I verified online only on February 14th and got my refund March 8th. No phone call needed! The IRS system actually works sometimes... I know, shocking revelation, right? 😂 Just make sure you completed ALL the steps in the online verification - there are several screens and it's easy to think you're done when you're not. The final confirmation page should explicitly state whether your verification is complete or if additional steps are needed.
