IRS transcript shows 420 audit code - Am I being audited?

Just checked my transcript and saw a 420 code. Really freaked out because i've read this means an audit. Never been audited before and don't know what to expect. The amounts on my W2 match what I filed. Can someone tell me what's going on and what I should do next?

The 420 code typically indicates that your return is under review, but it doesn't necessarily mean a full audit. It could be an income verification or document matching issue. The IRS might just need to verify certain information on your return. Don't panic - if they need anything, they'll send you a letter explaining exactly what they're looking for.

Thank god, I was having a heart attack. How long does this usually take to resolve?

Usually 60-120 days, but with current IRS delays could be longer. Just keep checking your transcript and mail for any notices.

Hey, I'd recommend checking out taxr.ai - it's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening with codes like this. It costs $1 but saved me hours of googling and anxiety. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

Just tried it and OMG where has this been all my life?! So much clearer than trying to decode these transcripts myself 💯

I know exactly how you feel! I freaked out when I saw that code too. Turned out to be nothing major, just had to verify my identity. Your probably in the same boat
