IRS still hasn't sent my $1,400 2023 refund + CPA error led to $600 state tax overpayment. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle with my taxes and could use some advice. I'm still waiting on my 2023 tax return - I was supposed to get $1,400 back but haven't seen a dime. To make matters worse, my CPA messed up my state taxes this year and I ended up overpaying by $600. Has anyone dealt with something similar? Any tips on how to get this sorted out with the IRS and state tax office?

Ugh, tax season is the worst! 🤮 I had a similar issue last year. Have you tried calling the IRS? Be prepared to wait on hold for hours tho...

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://www.claimyr.com

•Totally legit! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time.

For your 2023 return, check the "Where's My Refund?" tool on the IRS website. It might give you some info on the status. As for the state tax overpayment, you'll need to file an amended return. Your CPA should do this for free since it was their mistake.

•Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely check the refund tool. And yeah, I'm gonna have a talk with my CPA about fixing this mess.

Have you considered reaching out to your local Taxpayer Advocate Service? They can sometimes help resolve issues with the IRS when you're getting nowhere on your own. It's a free service, too!

•The Taxpayer Advocate Service is legit. They helped me sort out a mess with back taxes a couple years ago. Definitely worth a shot!

Okay, let's break this down: 1. For your 2023 return: - Check the "Where's My Refund?" tool on IRS.gov - If it's been more than 21 days since you e-filed, or 6 weeks since you mailed your return, call the IRS - Consider using the Taxpayer Advocate Service if you're facing financial hardship 2. For the state tax overpayment: - Contact your CPA and request they file an amended return at no cost to you - If they refuse, file a complaint with your state's board of accountancy - You can also file the amended return yourself using your state's tax website 3. General tips: - Keep detailed records of all your communications - Use certified mail for any paper correspondence - Be persistent but polite when dealing with tax agencies Remember, you're not alone in this. The system can be frustrating, but stay calm and keep pushing forward. Good luck!
