IRS refund delay after ID verification - weeks of waiting, no updates. How long for others?
I'm so frustrated with my tax refund delay. I had my ID verification appointment and was told my refund would be released right away. It's been weeks and still nothing. I double-checked with the agent, and they said nothing was missing from my return. Has anyone else experienced this? How long did it take for your refund to come through after verification? I'm starting to worry something went wrong.

Anyone else think its weird that they can take our money instantly but it takes forever to give it back? π€

As someone who used to work for the IRS, let me break down what might be happening and what you can do: 1. Delays are common, especially after ID verification. The system can take 2-6 weeks to update after verification. 2. If it's been more than 6 weeks, there might be another issue. Could be a math error, missing form, or random audit. 3. Keep calling. Use the trick someone mentioned about calling right when they open. Be persistent. 4. If you can't get through, try contacting the Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can sometimes help push things along. 5. Make sure you're checking the correct tax year on the 'Where's My Refund' tool. 6. If all else fails, contact your local congressperson's office. They have liaisons who can inquire on your behalf. Remember, patience is key. The IRS is understaffed and overworked. Hang in there!

I'm in the same boat. Filed in January, verified in March, still waiting in August. This system is broken af.

Protip: If you adjust your withholdings, you won't have to deal with refunds. It's better to break even or owe a little than to give the government an interest-free loan.

This is why I always file as early as possible. The later you file, the longer the wait.

I filed pretty early this year. Doesn't seem to have helped much π

Have you checked if there are any offsets against your refund? Sometimes they use it to pay off other debts you might have.

Nina Chan
Definitely check for offsets, thatβs a common reason for delays.

Actually, the IRS still uses fax a lot. It's more secure than email for sensitive info.

For those considering Claimyr, it may indeed be helpful if you're struggling to reach the IRS. Claimyr provides a service that holds on the line for you and connects you when an agent is available. However, be cautious and ensure it's the right choice for you. Some people have found it helpful, while others might prefer waiting the old-fashioned way. Always read reviews and weigh the cost against its benefits before making a decision.

Have you checked the 'Where's My Refund' tool on the IRS website? Sometimes it gives more info than what the agents tell you.

Have you considered that there might be an error on your return? Even if the agent said everything was fine, sometimes they miss things.

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Jc9x-gysK0
