IRS lost my amended return after faxing - Now says to mail and wait ANOTHER 16 weeks?!
Faxed my amended return in July and got confirmation letter about penalty removal. They said wait 16 weeks which ended Nov 9. Now when I call the IRS nobody can find my amended return in their system at all! They're telling me to mail it again and wait another 16 weeks. I already waited 4 months and now they want me to start over?

Tax professional here - this is unfortunately common with faxed returns lately. The IRS systems aren't properly tracking faxed documents. Always mail amended returns certified with tracking. Request your wage and income transcript to verify they received it.
