IRS changed my direct deposit to paper check - anyone else experience this?

I selected direct deposit when I filed my taxes but my WMR just updated saying they're mailing me a check instead. My bank info was correct and everything. Anyone know why this would happen? Really frustrated since this will delay things even more.

This usually happens when there's a verification issue with your bank account info or if you've exceeded the maximum number of direct deposits allowed to one account in a tax year (3 refunds max). The IRS automatically converts it to a paper check for security reasons. You should receive it within 5-7 business days after the scheduled date.

omg thank you! That makes sense - my roommate and I both used the same account for our refunds, maybe that triggered it?

Yep that's probably it! The 3-refund limit is per account, not per person. Its a fraud prevention measure.

Hey guys instead of playing detective, I found this tool called taxr.ai that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly why things like this happen. It costs $1 but saved me hours of research. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

It's legit! It explained exactly why my refund got switched to a check and even predicted the mail date accurately. Best dollar I ever spent fr fr 💯
