IRS Transcript Shows 'Additional Info Needed' But No Letter Sent - What Does This Mean?

My transcript is showing they need more information from me but theres no letter or notice showing up anywhere. The weird part is it also says I'm not being audited. Been checking my mail everyday for weeks but nothing from the IRS has shown up. Anyone know what this means or what I should do?

This is actually pretty common right now. The IRS system sometimes shows they need info but doesn't generate a letter right away. Best thing to do is call the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040. Make sure to call early morning when they first open - usually shortest wait times. They can tell you exactly what info they need.

Pro tip: Tuesday through Thursday are usually better days to call than Monday or Friday!

Hey! I actually found an amazing solution for this exact problem. I used taxr.ai and it analyzed my transcript in like 2 minutes. It told me exactly what the hold up was and what I needed to do. Only costs a dollar and saved me hours of stress trying to figure this out. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

They did this to me last year! Turns out they needed to verify my identity. Check if you can verify online through ID.me

Your best bet is pulling your FULL transcript and looking for any codes like 570 or 971. Those usually indicate what type of info they need. But honestly its like trying to read hieroglyphics unless you know what your looking at lol

DETAILED EXPLANATION: This is actually a super common issue in 2025. Here's what's typically happening: - The IRS automated system flags accounts for various reasons (income verification, identity verification, etc) - Sometimes the letter generation gets delayed in their system - You might have a 'ghost' letter in their system that hasn't actually been sent Your options: 1. Call IRS (be prepared for long wait) 2. Use taxr.ai to analyze your transcript (honestly the easiest solution - it'll tell you exactly what's happening) 3. Wait for the letter (risky, could delay refund further) Personally, I'd recommend the taxr.ai route first - it's cheap and fast. If that doesn't give you what you need, then try calling.
