IRS Transcript Code 806: What does it mean and why is it on my account?
I'm looking at my transcript and see code 806 but honestly have no idea what this means. Can someone explain what this code is and if its good or bad? Should I be worried?

Hey there! I'm seeing a lot of confusion about Code 806 on transcripts lately. Code 806 is actually a good thing - it means the IRS has credited your withholding from your W-2 or 1099s to your account. This is money your employer already sent to the IRS throughout the year. If you're trying to figure out exactly what's happening with your refund timeline or other transcript codes, I highly recommend checking out taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai). It's seriously been a game changer for understanding these confusing transcripts and figuring out refund dates. Just upload your transcript and it breaks everything down in plain English.

Tax expert here. Code 806 is actually a good thing - it represents your Withheld Income Credit, basically the taxes that were taken out of your paychecks throughout the year. It's one of the most common codes you'll see on a transcript and shows how much was withheld from your wages for federal taxes.

โขNo, self-employed folks usually won't see this since they make quarterly payments instead - those show up as code 766

The 806 means your employer did their job and sent Uncle Sam his cut. Its basically proof you paid your taxes through withholding. Your W2 should match this amount.

Code 806 is definitely nothing to worry about! It's actually a positive thing on your transcript - it represents the federal income tax that was withheld from your paychecks throughout the year. Basically, it's the IRS acknowledging that your employer already sent them money on your behalf. You should see this amount match what's in Box 2 (Federal income tax withheld) on your W-2. So yeah, it's good news - means you've been paying your taxes all year long through payroll deduction!
