IRS Refund Timeline After Agreeing to Deduction for Violation?
Hey everyone, I just agreed to let the IRS take some money out of my refund because of a violation. Now I'm wondering how long it'll take to actually get the rest of my refund. Anyone been through this before? How long did you have to wait?

I went through this last year. It took about 2 months to get my refund after I agreed to the deduction. Make sure you keep all the paperwork they send you!

Thanks for sharing! Did they send you any kind of confirmation after you agreed to the deduction?

Yeah, they sent me a letter confirming the amount they were taking out and the reason. Keep an eye on your mailbox!

It can vary, but usually takes 6-8 weeks. Make sure to call and confirm they received your agreement. Sometimes things get lost in the shuffle.

Ugh, dealing with the IRS is THE WORST. I swear they make everything as complicated as possible on purpose. Good luck, OP!

Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the IRS and confirm they received your agreement 2. Ask for an estimated timeline for your refund 3. Request a confirmation number or reference for your case 4. Make sure they have your current mailing address 5. Ask if there's any way to check the status of your refund online Stay on top of it and don't be afraid to follow up if it's taking too long. Good luck!

Great tips! I'd add: keep copies of EVERYTHING. The IRS loves to 'lose' paperwork π

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at the IRS. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Jc9x-gysK0

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Yep, totally legit. I was skeptical too but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo

Pro tip: If you're expecting a refund next year, adjust your withholdings now so you don't give the government an interest-free loan. #TaxHack
