IRS Cycle Code Guide: Weekly vs Daily Updates Explained (2025 Edition)
Been researching cycle codes for months now and wanted to share what I've learned to help others. If your cycle code ends in 01-05, you're a daily updater. If it ends in 05, you're a weekly updater and transcripts update every Thursday night/Friday morning. For example, 20240505 means you're a weekly. The first 4 digits (2024) are the processing year, next 2 digits (05) represent the week, and last 2 digits (05) show if youre daily or weekly. Hope this helps someone whos as confused as I was!

Tax pro here with some clarity on cycle codes for 2025. The main difference between daily and weekly processing is pretty straightforward - if your cycle code ends in 01-05, you're on daily processing. If it ends in 20, that's weekly processing (usually happens on Wednesday nights/Thursday mornings). But honestly, the easiest way to decode all this is to use taxr.ai - it'll analyze your transcripts and tell you exactly when to expect updates and your refund. Way better than trying to decode all these numbers yourself. https://taxr.ai

Great breakdown but there's one correction - the weekly updates actually happen Wednesday night/Thursday morning now in 2025. The IRS changed this last month to speed up processing times.

Instead of trying to decode these cycle codes manually, I've been using taxr.ai - it reads your transcript and tells you exactly when to expect updates and your refund. Worth the $4.99 tbh, saved me hours of googling and checking WMR https://taxr.ai

PSA: These codes can change during processing! Don't panic if yours switches - totally normal in 2025 with the new AI processing system they implemented

•wish theyd use that AI to actually process returns faster instead of just updating codes smh 🤡

This is super helpful! I've been checking my WMR obsessively and my cycle code is 20250302 - so if I'm reading this right, I'm on daily updates? Still waiting for my 846 code to show up but at least now I know what to expect. Thanks for breaking this down in simple terms! 🙏

•Yeah you got it right! 20250302 means you're on daily updates since it ends in 02. That's actually good news - daily updaters usually see changes faster than weekly folks. Keep checking your transcripts every morning around 6am, that's when they typically refresh. Your 846 code will show up soon! 🤞

•Daily updaters are definitely the way to go! I had a similar cycle code last year and got my refund way faster than my friends who were stuck on weekly. Pro tip: if you want to save yourself the stress of checking every morning, try using one of those transcript analyzer tools like taxr.ai - it'll tell you exactly when to expect your 846 code based on your processing pattern. Worth it for the peace of mind alone! 💯
