IRS 60-day review - what to expect and ask?
Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a 60-day review from the IRS and I'm not sure what to expect. Has anyone gone through this before? What kind of questions should I be asking when I finally get to talk to an agent? I'm feeling a bit lost here and could use some advice.

Ugh, I've been there. The 60-day review can be a real pain. Make sure you ask for a detailed status update and what the next steps are. Also, find out if they need any additional info from you. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! Did your review end up taking the full 60 days?

Mine actually took about 75 days π But I've heard some people get it done faster. It really depends on your specific case.

Pro tip: Keep a detailed log of all your interactions with the IRS. Write down dates, times, and names of who you spoke to. It'll save you a headache later if theres any discrepancies.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at the IRS. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

I was skeptical at first too, but it really did work for me. Saved me hours of hold time.

Here's what you need to know about the 60-day review: β’ It's usually triggered by discrepancies in your return or missing information β’ The IRS may need additional documentation from you β’ They might adjust your refund or tax owed β’ In some cases, it can lead to an audit (but don't panic, it's not common) Questions to ask: 1. What specific issues triggered the review? 2. Do you need any additional documents from me? 3. What's the expected timeline for resolution? 4. Will this affect my future returns? 5. Is there a direct contact for follow-up questions? Stay calm and organized. Good luck!

Tinfoil hat time: what if tax prep companies lobby to keep it confusing so we have to use their services? π€

Whatever you do, don't ignore any IRS letters or miss any deadlines. That's a one-way ticket to Audit City, population: you.

Can confirm. Missed a deadline once and it was a nightmare to sort out. Learn from my mistakes, people!

Has anyone tried calling their local Taxpayer Advocate Service? They can sometimes help navigate these issues and its a free service.

I did! They were actually super helpful. Took a while to get an appointment, but worth it.

just remember, your sanity > any amount of money the IRS thinks you owe them. don't let it consume you. βοΈ
