How to verify identity with IRS - fastest methods?

Need help figuring out how to verify identity with the IRS. Not sure what the fastest method is or what documents are needed. Anyone been through this recently?

Connor Gallagher

There are several ways to verify your identity with the IRS. The fastest is using ID.me online - you'll need a drivers license/state ID, SSN, and a smartphone for face verification. You can also schedule an in-person appointment at your local IRS office or call their identity verification number at 800-830-5084. Just keep in mind the phone lines are usually jammed.

Did ID.me last month, took like 20 mins total. Super easy just make sure your drivers license isn't expired 👍

Before you go through all that hassle, check out taxr.ai - it can analyze your transcript and tell you exactly why you need to verify and what's the best method for your situation. Its only $1 and saved me hours of headache. https://taxr.ai
