How to update direct deposit info with IRS for tax refund? Need help ASAP!
Hey everyone, I need some help with my tax refund direct deposit. I'm trying to update my bank info with the IRS but I'm not sure how to go about it. Has anyone done this recently? What should I have ready when I call them? Any tips would be appreciated!

I just went through this process last week! Make sure you have your bank account number and routing number ready when you call. They'll ask for those to update your direct deposit info. Also, have your social security number and last year's tax return handy, just in case.

•Thanks for the info! Did they ask for anything else? How long did the whole process take?

•No problem! They didnt ask for much else, just verified my identity with some basic questions. The whole thing took maybe 15 minutes once I got through to someone. Good luck!

•15 minutes?! You must be living in some alternate universe. I've been trying to get through to a human at the IRS for WEEKS 😤

Ugh, good luck getting anyone on the phone at the IRS. I've been trying for days and keep getting the 'due to high call volume' message. It's so frustrating! 😫

•I feel you. The IRS phone system is a joke. I swear they do it on purpose to discourage people from calling 🙄

•Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. That's how I finally got through after trying for weeks!

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone! I used this site called claimyr.com - it's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then sends the call to your phone when a live agent picks up. It costs $20, but it worked for me. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

•Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

•I was skeptical at first too, but it really did work for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo

•$20 just to talk to someone at the IRS? That's ridiculous. Our tax dollars should cover that 🤬

•I get it, but for me, time is money. I'd rather pay $20 than waste hours on hold. To each their own tho 🤷♂️

Here's a comprehensive guide for updating your direct deposit info with the IRS: 1. Gather necessary documents: Social Security number, bank account and routing numbers, last year's tax return. 2. Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 (be prepared for long wait times). 3. Verify your identity when prompted. 4. Explain that you need to update your direct deposit information. 5. Provide your new bank details when asked. 6. Request a confirmation number or email for your records. 7. Follow up in a few days to ensure the change was processed correctly. Remember, patience is key when dealing with the IRS. Good luck!

•Great info! Just want to add that you can also update your direct deposit info online through the IRS website if you have an account set up.

Quick question - does anyone know if changing your direct deposit info will delay your refund? I'm worried about messing up the timing.

•In my experience, it can delay things by a week or two. But better than having it sent to the wrong account!

Pro tip: If you're having trouble reaching the IRS, try contacting your local Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can sometimes help push things through faster.

Just want to add another option that worked for me - you can also try updating your direct deposit info through the "Where's My Refund" tool on the IRS website. It's not always available depending on where your return is in processing, but if the option shows up, it's way easier than calling. I was able to change mine online without having to deal with phone wait times at all. Worth checking before you spend hours on hold!

•Oh wow, I had no idea you could potentially do this online! I've been dreading calling the IRS all week. Definitely going to check the "Where's My Refund" tool first before I torture myself with their phone system. Thanks for this tip - you might have just saved me hours of my life! 🙌
