How to check if IRS will offset my refund for debts before filing?

I want to file my taxes but I'm worried about any debts that might get taken out of my refund. Is there a way to check beforehand? Don't want any surprises when I file and would rather know what I'm dealing with upfront.

You can check the Treasury Offset Program's website (fiscal.treasury.gov) or call their hotline at 800-304-3107. They'll tell you if you have any federal or state debts that might get offset. Common offsets include student loans, child support, state tax debts, and unemployment overpayments. Just need your SSN to check.

They don't take private debts like medical bills - only federal and state debts

Hey guys, I've been using taxr.ai and it's actually amazing for this kind of stuff. It costs $1 but it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what offsets might hit your refund. Really takes the guesswork out. Check it out at https://taxr.ai

I work at a tax office and honestly the offset system is so complicated. Even we sometimes cant predict everything theyll take. Best bet is to check that treasury number or use an analysis tool before filing.
