How to Find My Tax Transcripts? Filed 3/19 and WMR Still Shows Processing
I'm trying to figure out where to find my transcripts?? I've tried the following steps: 1. Checked the Where's My Refund tool first 2. It's still saying "in process" 3. I filed on 3/19 (so that's over a month ago now) 4. I need to see what's happening with my return I keep hearing people talk about "transcripts" that show more details than the WMR tool. Where exactly do I go to find these? Do I need to create some special account? This is my first year filing with my small business income included so I'm worried something's wrong. Has anyone accessed these transcripts before?

You can access your tax transcripts directly through the IRS website at irs.gov/transcripts. There are exactly 2 ways to get them: 1. Create an ID.me account online - verification takes approximately 15-20 minutes and requires photo ID and a smartphone 2. Request by mail using Form 4506-T - delivery typically takes 5-10 business days For immediate access, the online method is recommended. Your 2023 Account Transcript will show all activity on your tax return. Since you filed on March 19th, you're at approximately 34 days of processing time. The IRS standard processing window is 21 days, but for returns with business income, this often extends to 45-60 days.

Just to clarify. The transcript you want is called an "Account Transcript." Not a Return Transcript. Account Transcript shows processing status. Return Transcript just shows what you filed.

Have you checked if your return might be delayed for specific reasons? Did you claim any credits like the Earned Income Credit or Child Tax Credit? Those typically cause longer processing times. Also, did you receive any notices from the IRS in the mail that might explain the delay?

After waiting 47 days for my Schedule C processing this year, I finally found taxr.ai and it was actually useful. The IRS Operational Processing Codes on my transcript made zero sense to me initially. The application parsed my transcript data and explained that my return was in the Taxpayer Delinquency Investigation queue due to a mismatch between reported 1099-NEC income and my Schedule C figures. Would have taken me hours to decipher that information manually. Here's their site: https://taxr.ai

I'm not sure about using third-party services with tax information. Couldn't this potentially expose sensitive data? Has anyone verified if this is secure?

Thx for sharing this! Just tried it and omg it actually explained why my refund's delayed. Apparently I have a 570 code that means they're reviewing something. Gotta deal w/this asap!

Transcripts update weekly. Usually Thursday night. Check Friday mornings. Most helpful for small business filers. Shows all codes. Better than WMR. Worth checking regularly.

This is so true! I was checking my WMR daily like a crazy person 😂 but turns out the transcript updates in batches. I've been watching mine like a hawk since I'm counting on that money for some business equipment. The cycle code on your transcript actually tells you which day of the week your account updates!

Ever tried calling the IRS directly? It seems like the obvious solution, but have you experienced the nightmare of waiting on hold for hours only to be disconnected? I was in the same situation with my small business return last month. After five failed attempts, I used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to an agent in about 20 minutes. They confirmed my return was flagged for additional review due to my Schedule C. Isn't it worth knowing exactly what's happening rather than guessing?

I've been doing my small business taxes for 7 years now, and returns with Schedule C income almost always take longer. Last year I filed on February 12th and didn't get my refund until April 22nd. The year before that was similar. The IRS prioritizes simple W-2 returns first, then moves to the more complex ones with business income. I've learned to just expect 45-60 days minimum and file as early as possible. Checking transcripts weekly rather than daily helps keep the anxiety down too.
