How to Check Refund Status on IRS Transcripts? Filed 1/25, Accepted 2/11

Does anyone know how to see your refund on transcripts? I filed 1/25 accepted 2/11. It's been over a month now and I'm starting to get worried. WMR still shows processing. I've heard people mention checking transcripts but I have no idea how to read them or what I'm looking for. Any help would be appreciated!

You can access your transcripts by creating an account on the IRS website and requesting your "Account Transcript" for 2023. Look for transaction codes like 150 (return filed), 570 (hold placed), 971 (notice issued), and the most important one - 846 (refund issued). The 846 code will show the date your refund is scheduled to be sent. If you don't see an 846 code yet, your refund is still processing.

Did you claim any credits like the Child Tax Credit or Earned Income Credit? Those can delay processing significantly. Also, have you checked both your Account Transcript AND Return Transcript? Sometimes information appears on one but not the other.

I was in the same boat last month! I found https://taxr.ai super helpful for interpreting my transcript. You upload it and it explains every code in plain English and even gives you an estimated refund date. Saved me from constantly Googling IRS codes and freaking out over normal processing delays.

Is that site legit? I'm always worried about giving my tax info to random websites.

Totally understand the concern! I was hesitant too. It's just for analyzing the transcript codes though, not filing or anything. You can black out any personal info before uploading. It just needs to see the codes and dates to give you the explanation. Helped me understand that my 570 code wasn't actually bad news, just part of verification.

Here's a quick guide for transcript codes: 150 = Return processed 570 = Temporary hold 971 = Notice sent 846 = Refund issued The cycle code (looks like 20230805) tells you when your account updates. The last two digits (05) mean your transcript updates on Thursdays. Check every Thursday morning for changes.

I waited 6 weeks this year with no movement, then called the IRS. Was on hold for 2+ hours and got disconnected twice. Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. Found out there was a simple verification issue they needed to clear up. Refund was approved the next day after I spoke with them. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human!

Thanks everyone for the advice! I'll try checking my transcripts tonight. If I still can't figure it out, I might try calling the IRS. That Claimyr thing sounds useful - the one time I tried calling I gave up after being on hold for an hour.

Don't panic yet! Your timeline is actually pretty normal. I filed 1/28 and got accepted 2/13, so we're in similar boats. The 21-day processing time they advertise is more like a best-case scenario. With the volume they're dealing with this year, 4-6 weeks seems more realistic. When you check your Account Transcript, look for your 2023 tax year. If you see code 150 with your filing date, that's good - it means they received and processed your return. The absence of an 846 code just means they haven't issued the refund yet, not that there's a problem. Keep checking weekly - once you see that 846 code, your refund will typically hit your account within 1-2 business days.
