How long does SBTG take to deduct TurboTax fees from refund?

So how long is it gone take SBTG (whatever bank it is 🤣🤣🤣) to take these fees out for TurboTax? This my first year using them and I don't want them to disappoint me 🤣🤣 I've done all my research on the tax side but somehow missed looking into how this refund transfer process works. I've heard Santa Barbara Tax Products Group handles the fee deduction, but their timing seems mysterious to everyone!

From what I've seen in previous years, SBTG usually processes the fees within 24-48 hours after the IRS deposits your refund into their account. But I've also seen it take up to 5 days in some cases during peak season. Did you get any notification that your refund was approved by the IRS yet? That's the first step before SBTG even gets involved.

Not always true. Mine took 3 days. Exactly. IRS deposited Friday. Got money Tuesday. Peak filing season matters.

I'm wondering if perhaps the processing time might also depend on your bank? Some banks seem to hold ACH transfers longer than others, which could potentially add an extra day or two to the timeline after SBTG processes everything.

Thanks for this info! My refund was accepted on March 15th and WMR just updated to approved yesterday. Hoping to see the deposit by next Friday based on your timeline.

Don't use refund transfer services. They're unnecessary fees. Direct deposit is faster and free. You're paying extra for nothing. Next year, just pay TurboTax directly and get your refund sent straight to your bank account.

But what if someone doesn't have the money upfront to pay for the tax preparation fees? Isn't that why these services exist in the first place? And how much does it actually delay the refund compared to direct deposit? Is it really that significant?

May I ask how much extra the refund transfer service typically costs? I'm considering using TurboTax next year and would like to understand all the fees involved.

According to the TurboTax support page, SBTG typically processes refunds within 1-3 business days after receiving funds from the IRS. If you're worried about delays, you might want to check your refund status directly with the IRS. I had a similar concern last year and tried calling the IRS for days without success. Finally used https://claimyr.com and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes who confirmed exactly when my refund was sent to SBTG. Saved me a lot of anxiety wondering if something went wrong with my refund.

Think of SBTG like a middleman in a relay race. The IRS hands your refund to SBTG, they take their portion (and TurboTax's fee), then pass the baton to your bank. In my experience, it's like adding an extra pit stop - typically adds 2-3 business days to the process. Last year my refund was approved on a Thursday, SBTG processed it by Monday, and I had funds in my account Tuesday morning. It's not instant like direct deposit would be, but it's reasonably efficient for what they're doing.

OMG I'm going through this right now too!!! I've been checking my bank account literally every hour! 😩 I got the email that IRS sent my refund to SBTG yesterday and I'm FREAKING OUT waiting for it to hit my account! I just need this money so bad right now. Why don't they give us a tracking number or something?! The waiting is killing me!!!

FYI - SBTG usually processes within 24hrs of IRS deposit. Their system runs batch processing overnight. If IRS confirms deposit to SBTG today, you'll prob see funds tmrw or next biz day. Depends on your bank too. Some post pending deposits, others wait til fully cleared.

This SBTG situation is way better than what happened with Republic Bank refund transfers a few years back. Those would take 5-7 days sometimes! I was pulling my hair out waiting. With SBTG, I've consistently gotten my refund 2-3 days after the IRS releases it. Just keep an eye on your WMR status - once it says sent, give it 2-3 business days and you should be good.
