Got CP15 notice from IRS - civil penalty help needed ASAP!

Hey everyone, I just got a CP15 notice from the IRS about a civil penalty. Anyone else dealt with this before? What should I do when I call them? I'm kinda freaking out here.

Ugh, been there done that. Here's what you need to do: 1. Gather all your docs - tax return, the CP15 notice, everything. 2. When you call, ask them to explain exactly why you got hit with this penalty. 3. If you think it's wrong, ask how to dispute it. 4. Get ready to send more paperwork if they ask. 5. If it gets complicated, you might wanna talk to a tax pro. Good luck, dealing with the IRS is always a headache 😩

This is solid advice 💯 I'd add: take notes during the call. You'll thank yourself later.

@profile 3 Check out local tax clinics or law schools. They sometimes offer free help!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at the IRS. Used this site called claimyr.com - it's a calling tool that dials through the menu, waits on hold, and then connects you when a real person picks up. Costs $20 but saved me hours of frustration. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

Totally legit! I was skeptical too but it worked like a charm. Worth every penny imo

How long did you have to wait after using the service?

About 45 mins. Way better than the 3+ hours I spent trying on my own before!

Have you checked if youre eligble for the first-time penalty abatement? Might save you some $$$

No, I haven't! What's that about? Sounds promising 👀

If its your first time getting hit with a penalty, and you've been good about filing and paying on time before, you might qualify. Ask the IRS agent about it!

Pro tip: call early in the morning or right before they close. Less wait time 😉

Anyone else feel like the IRS is just throwing darts at a board to decide who to penalize? 🎯🤔

PREACH 🙌 I swear they have it out for us little guys

Nah, they're just underfunded and overworked. Doesn't excuse mistakes, but explains a lot.

Whatever you do, DON'T ignore the notice. That'll only make things worse. Trust me, I learned the hard way 😅
