Filed with TurboTax on 2/7 - When Should I Expect Updates?
I filed and was accepted on 2/7 through TurboTax. Just curious when I should expect to see any updates? Last year I had to amend my return which was a whole ordeal, so I'm trying to stay on top of things this time around. The WMR tool isn't showing much yet. Anyone have experience with early February filing timeframes?

I'm... not entirely sure, but from what I've seen, most people are getting updates within 21 days of acceptance. I filed around the same time last year and it took about 17 days before I saw any movement on WMR. Just be careful about checking too often as the system sometimes locks you out if you check multiple times a day...

Exactly right about the 21-day timeline. I've filed with TurboTax for the past 8 years, and typically see updates within 14-18 days. Last year I filed on February 3rd and got my direct deposit on February 21st. The year before was similar timing. The IRS actually says to wait until 21 days before calling them about status.

Did you opt for direct deposit? That usually speeds things up considerably compared to waiting for a paper check.

I'm curious - have you checked your tax transcript on the IRS website? Sometimes that updates before the WMR tool does. It might show processing stages that WMR doesn't display yet.

Are you claiming any credits this year? • Earned Income Credit? • Child Tax Credit? • Education credits? Those can affect processing time. Also, did you verify your identity with ID.me for the IRS website access? That way you can check your transcript for more detailed info.

I checked my transcript this morning and it's still showing N/A for 2023. I claimed the standard deduction, no special credits. I'm direct deposit and my return is pretty straightforward. I'm just trying to avoid the amendment nightmare I had last year when I realized I forgot to include a 1099 form. That delayed my refund by almost 5 months.

I was in exactly the same position - filed on February 8th and was getting anxious after 18 days with no updates. Called the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 and spent 97 minutes on hold before giving up. Then I tried Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) which got me through to an actual IRS agent in 23 minutes. The agent confirmed my return was just in normal processing with no issues flagged. Got my deposit 8 days later. Definitely worth the small fee to avoid hours of hold music and anxiety.

Has anyone been seeing longer delays this tax season? I filed Feb 1st and STILL nothing! Getting really worried since I need this money for some urgent car repairs! 😫

According to IRS Publication 2043 (2024), the standard processing time for electronically filed returns is 21 calendar days. However, there are several factors that can extend this timeline: 1. Returns filed early in the season (January-mid February) often experience slightly longer processing times due to system validations and high volume. 2. Per Internal Revenue Code §6402(a), the IRS must verify certain data points which can add 5-7 days to processing. 3. Returns with no refundable credits typically process faster than those with credits. If you filed on February 7th and today is February 28th, you're still within the normal processing window. I would recommend checking your transcript next Tuesday, as that will mark the 21-day threshold.
