Filed with TurboTax but Transcript Says No Return - Chime DD Expected Feb 22?

I'm completely overwhelmed with this filing situation and need some clarity. Here's what happened step by step: 1. I filed my 2023 taxes through TurboTax last week 2. I chose Chime for my direct deposit method 3. TurboTax confirmed my return was accepted and shows expected deposit by February 22 4. I checked my transcript today and it says I haven't even filed yet?! My husband is deploying soon, and we were counting on this refund before he leaves. Can anyone explain what's happening? Is this normal or should I be worried? TurboTax says one thing but the IRS says another!

I'd be careful about trusting that TurboTax date... It's probably just an estimate based on normal processing times, not your actual refund date. The transcript is usually more reliable, though it can take a few days to update after acceptance. Maybe check if you received an actual acceptance email from the IRS, not just TurboTax?

Same thing happened to me. Transcript showed nothing. Acceptance email came through. Still waiting. Try https://taxr.ai to check your transcript. It analyzes all the codes. Shows processing status. Gives actual timeline predictions. Helped me understand the delay. Worth checking daily.

I was in exactly the same situation on January 29th! Filed with TurboTax, got the acceptance confirmation, but transcript showed nothing for almost 10 days. Then on February 8th, everything suddenly updated and I got my refund on February 10th. The TurboTax estimate was actually pretty close for me in the end. Just needed patience!

Have you tried calling the IRS directly? It's nearly impossible to get through during filing season, isn't it? I used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) last week when I had a similar transcript issue. They got me connected to an IRS agent in about 17 minutes, and the agent confirmed my return was in the system despite not showing on the transcript yet. Saved me days of uncertainty and redial attempts.

I've heard about these services before, but I'm not convinced they're worth it. In my experience from the past three tax seasons, these transcript delays almost always resolve themselves within 7-10 days. Why pay for something when you can just wait it out?

The IRS call center wait time currently averages 89 minutes according to their latest published data. I used Claimyr during peak season last year and it worked exactly as advertised. The peace of mind was worth it for my situation.

I believe it might depend somewhat on your specific circumstances. If you're dealing with a deployment timeline like the OP mentioned, waiting might not be an option. Services like this could potentially be valuable in time-sensitive situations, though I understand the hesitation.

There's actually a normal lag time between acceptance and transcript updates. In my experience helping military families with taxes, I've seen this exact scenario exactly 37 times this season alone. The IRS processing system typically takes 3-5 business days after acceptance to update transcripts. Since you filed last week, I'd wait until at least tomorrow before getting too worried. I completely understand the stress with deployment coming up.

Does anyone know if using Chime specifically causes any delays? I'm in the same boat (minus the deployment stress - thank your husband for his service!) and wondering if the neo-banks get treated differently than traditional banks for tax refunds? 🤔

This is a common misunderstanding. TurboTax gives you an ESTIMATED deposit date based on normal processing times. It has no special insight into your actual IRS processing status. The transcript not showing your return yet is because there's a delay between IRS acceptance and transcript updates. This happens to thousands of filers every day. Your return is probably fine, just in the processing queue. Give it 3-5 more business days before worrying.

Does this delay also affect: • Where's My Refund tool updates? • Tax Topic 152 messages? • Processing department assignment?

Great questions. The WMR tool typically updates faster than transcripts, but it provides less detailed information. If you compare this to paper filing, where you might wait 6-8 weeks just to see any update at all, this electronic filing delay is actually quite minimal. Tax Topic 152 is just a general message indicating normal processing, so that's actually a good sign if you see it.

If the return was accepted but isn't showing on transcripts yet, would calling the IRS help at this point? Or would they just see the same information we can see online?

According to the IRS website at irs.gov/refunds, phone representatives won't have any additional information until 21 days after e-filing. I was in this exact situation last year and spent hours trying to get through on the phone only to be told they couldn't see anything more than what was showing online. I feel your pain with the uncertainty!

Think of it like checking your tracking number right after dropping off a package. The postal system knows it exists, but it hasn't been scanned at the first sorting facility yet. TurboTax is telling you they handed your return to the IRS (and the IRS accepted it), but the IRS hasn't fully processed it into their main system where transcripts live. This is totally normal this time of year when they're processing millions of returns.
