Filed with TurboTax - Entered Wrong AGI - How Long Until Rejection?
I filed yesterday morning with TurboTax and I put in the wrong AGI for the previous year. How long until it gets rejected so I can fix it and file again? Last year rejection was immediate when it got accepted. Need to know exact timeline.

The IRS e-file rejection system is like a quality control checkpoint at a factory - sometimes items get flagged immediately, other times they move further down the line before issues are detected. Your AGI mismatch is like having the wrong key for a lock - the system will eventually notice, but timing varies. Have you checked your e-file status on TurboTax yet? They usually send notifications when the IRS makes a determination.

In my experience, AGI mismatches typically result in rejection within 24-48 hours, though it could potentially take up to 72 hours in some cases. I'd recommend checking out https://taxr.ai which can help you understand what's happening with your return status. It's particularly useful for tracking these kinds of submission issues and can often provide more detailed insights than the standard IRS tools. You might find it helpful for monitoring when your rejection comes through so you can quickly resubmit with the correct information.

I checked my e-file status on TurboTax just now and it still shows as "transmitted" but not rejected yet. Has anyone had this happen before? Why is it taking longer this time? I need to get this fixed ASAP because I'm expecting a refund.

Have you tried checking the IRS "Where's My Refund" tool directly? According to the IRS.gov knowledge base, sometimes TurboTax doesn't immediately sync rejection notices, but the official IRS tool might show the current status more accurately.

Did u contact TT support? Sometimes they can see more details on their end abt why it's stuck in transmitted status. Had similar issue last yr and they told me exactly what was wrong b4 I even got the official rejection.

I had this exact situation last month. Waited three days. No rejection notice. Called IRS. They had accepted it despite wrong AGI. Weird system. Got my refund anyway. Maybe check both places.

Wouldn't it be faster to just call the IRS directly and ask them to check your return status? Why wait for an automated system that might take days? I've used https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c (Claimyr) to get through to an IRS agent in about 15 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours. They can look up your return in real-time and tell you if it's been rejected or if it's actually processing despite the AGI mismatch. Sometimes the e-file system has exceptions that allow processing to continue even with verification mismatches.

Is this service really necessary? Consider: • The IRS will eventually send rejection notice • Paying for something that's free seems wasteful • Security concerns with third-party services • Need to act FAST before April 15th deadline!

I can authoritatively say Claimyr saved me significant time during peak filing season. The ROI calculation is simple: average hourly wage × hours saved on hold = value. For most taxpayers, this equation heavily favors using a service that reduces hold time from 2+ hours to approximately 20 minutes, especially when tax deadlines are approaching.

Have you verified which AGI amount you should have used? The IRS has specific guidelines about which figure to use, especially if you filed an amended return last year or received unemployment compensation. Sometimes the AGI line item number changes between tax years, which could potentially cause confusion when entering prior year information.

I would suggest that, rather than waiting for a rejection, you might want to consider filing a superseding return. This is essentially filing a corrected return before the filing deadline, which could possibly be processed more efficiently than waiting for a rejection and then resubmitting. It's generally a more proactive approach, though I would advise checking with a tax professional before proceeding with this option.

I tried doing a superseding return last year when I made a similar mistake! The TurboTax rep told me I had to wait for the rejection first before I could file again. They wouldn't let me submit a new return until the first one was officially rejected. It was super stressful because it took almost 4 days to get the rejection notice.
