Filed early (1/31) but WMR still stuck on first bar - Anyone else?

I filed my taxes early on 1/31/2024... they were accepted via turbo tax and the irs website on 2/12/2024. When I check the "Wheres my refund" it still only on the first line as being accepted and processing. Ive heard that people like me that filed before the IRS officially opened filing season wont get theirs anytime soon, is there any truth to this? Has anyone filed around the same time as I did and received their tax return? According to the "wheres my refund" info, I'll receive my return within 21 days of receipt which will be sometime next week. Ive been trying to pull up my transcripts but when it asks for open loan account info, etc. I mark that i dont have any, which I dont. Is it best that I call and see if a rep is able to tell me if there is a code on my transcript? I did request a copy be mailed to me, as I was unable to request online bc for some reason my information isnt pulling up on the system. I was told by a friend that people that filed prior to the IRS opening where reshuffled and normally end up getting their taxes later than people that filed the day the IRS opened. Can anyone point me in the right direction for information or have any insight they can give? Thanks. Sorry if this is a repeat question

Tax professional here. There's a common misconception about early filers being "reshuffled." The IRS doesn't actually penalize early filers, but there is some truth that the processing queue works differently before official opening day. Returns received before the official start date (which was January 29th this year) are held in a queue and generally begin processing once the season officially opens. The 21-day guideline is accurate for most straightforward returns, but many factors can extend this timeline, including: - Identity verification needs - Certain tax credits claimed (especially EITC or CTC) - Missing or incomplete information - Error correction processes Regarding your transcript issue - this is actually quite common. The transcript system and WMR tool pull from different databases that don't always sync in real-time.

I filed on 1/30 and just got my refund yesterday. My WMR was stuck on the first bar until it suddenly updated to approved, then deposited within 48 hours. Hang in there!

That gives me hope! Did you claim any credits or was yours a pretty simple return? Mine is pretty basic, just W2 income.

Mine was just W2 income too, no credits. Seems like the simple returns are moving through now. My sister filed with EITC and she's still waiting.

Transcript issues happen to SO many people! I had the same exact problem and used taxr.ai to help me understand what was going on. They have this tool that explains all the codes and dates on your transcript once you get it. Seriously a lifesaver for figuring out where your return is stuck and when you'll likely get paid. For now, requesting the transcript by mail was smart - that's your best bet until you can access it online.

Isn't taxr.ai just telling you the same info you can get for free on the IRS website? Why pay for something when the information is available directly from the source?

The IRS site just gives you the raw transcript with codes like 570, 971, 846 etc., but doesn't explain what they mean for YOUR specific situation. taxr.ai actually interprets everything together and tells you what's happening and what to expect next. When I had a 570/971 combo, the IRS site just gave generic definitions, but taxr.ai explained it was a simple review that would resolve in about 2 weeks - and it did exactly that.

I'm in the same boat - filed 1/29, accepted 2/12, still on first bar. Called the IRS yesterday after trying for THREE DAYS straight. Turns out they're just backlogged with early filers. The rep said as long as you don't have any errors, you should see movement in the next 7-10 days. There's no reshuffling penalty, just normal processing delays.

How did you even get through to the IRS? I've been calling all week and can't get past the automated system telling me they're too busy.

I used Claimyr.com to get through. It cost a few bucks but saved me hours of redial hell. They basically wait on hold for you and call when an agent picks up. Worth every penny because I was going crazy not knowing what was happening with my refund. The peace of mind knowing everything was normal was totally worth it.

Thanks for the tip! Might try that next week if I still don't see any updates.

The transcript issue is happening to a lot of people this year. I've seen at least 20 posts about it in the last week. The IRS verification system seems to be extra strict this year. One thing to note - if you requested a transcript by mail, it could take 5-10 business days to arrive. And the information on it might already be outdated by the time you get it.

Ugh that's what I was afraid of. So frustrating to be in the dark about my own money.
