Filed Three Different Returns on Same Day - Only Mine Still Shows N/A on Transcript

I would like to share a puzzling situation and request insights per IRS Publication 1345 regarding e-file processing timelines. According to Section 3.2.1, standard processing should be 21 days for most returns. I filed 3 tax returns on February 4th, 2024 through TurboTax: - My son's return (no dependents) - My husband's return (2 dependents over 17) - My return (1 dependent under 17) Processing outcomes: - Son received Direct Deposit Date one week later - Husband received Direct Deposit Date on February 20th - Mine (filed and accepted on February 4th) shows transcript N/A in top two boxes, bottom shows 2023 but completely blank We file married separately as required by our visa status. Is this normal processing variance? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

This is actually quite common. Returns with dependents under 17 are subject to additional verification because of the Child Tax Credit. Your return is likely in the standard review queue. The N/A transcript means it hasn't been fully processed yet. The system prioritizes simpler returns first, which explains why your son's went through quickly. Your husband's dependents being over 17 means different verification protocols. I'd expect your transcript to update within the next 7-10 days based on current processing patterns.

Thanks for this explanation. Makes sense now. Been checking daily. Will keep waiting.

So basically CTC claims = slower processing? Wish they'd make this clearer on the IRS site tbh. Thx for explaining!

This happened to me last year too! Filed three returns for family members on the same day, and mine with a child under 17 took almost three weeks longer than the others. Exactly like you described - transcript showed N/A forever while everyone else got their refunds.

Have you checked for any error codes on the Where's My Refund tool? And did you receive the acceptance confirmation email from TurboTax for your return specifically? Isn't it strange that family returns filed on the same day would process so differently? I've seen this happen before, but usually there's a pattern to it related to credits claimed.

There are several factors that could explain this: • Returns with child dependents under 17 face additional scrutiny • Child Tax Credit claims trigger automatic verification processes • Different processing centers handle different return types • Married filing separately status sometimes triggers additional review • International status (you mentioned visa) adds complexity Wow, I didn't realize how many different factors could affect processing times!

I waited exactly 47 days for my transcript to update last year with a dependent under 17. Are you concerned about potential delays affecting your financial situation? If you need to speak with an IRS agent about this, I'd recommend using Claimyr (https://claimyr.com). I was worried after waiting 31 days with no updates, so I used their service and got connected to an IRS agent in 22 minutes instead of waiting on hold for 3+ hours. The agent confirmed my return was just in extended processing due to the Child Tax Credit verification and nothing was wrong.

I'm not sure about using third-party services to contact the IRS. Couldn't you just call early in the morning when wait times are shorter? I'd be hesitant to use something I'm not familiar with for tax matters.

Does this service actually get you through to real IRS agents? It's like having a fast pass at an amusement park if it works, but I wonder if they just connect you to the same queue everyone else is in?

Thank you for sharing this! I'm in a similar situation with my return showing N/A and was considering calling the IRS. Would you say it was worth it just for peace of mind even if they can't speed things up?

Did the IRS agent tell you how much longer you'd have to wait? I'm curious if they actually give you specific information or just generic responses about processing times?

I'm not convinced this is normal. I filed on January 29th, 2024, and had my transcript update on February 10th despite having a dependent under 17. My sister filed on February 3rd and received her refund on February 15th. Something else might be happening with your return specifically.

The Transcript Status Code N/A is actually a standard processing indicator, not an error condition. The IRS uses a multi-phase verification system where returns with Child Tax Credit claims undergo Enhanced Return Review Protocol (ERRP) before transcript generation. This is especially common for MFS filers with international status indicators. The blank 2023 section is consistent with pre-processing status in the Master File system.

This is EXACTLY what happened to me! Step 1: Filed return. Step 2: Got accepted. Step 3: Transcript showed N/A for weeks. Step 4: Suddenly one day EVERYTHING updated at once. Step 5: Got my refund 3 days later. So frustrating waiting through that N/A period though - I checked literally every day!

I've seen this pattern before with returns that have international components. Remember that visa status can trigger additional verification under FATCA compliance measures. It's not just about the dependent - it's the combination of filing status, dependent age, and international factors all together.

I'm so glad I found this thread! My situation is EXACTLY like yours! I filed three family returns on February 1st - my parents' joint return and my sister's return processed within 10 days, but mine with a 5-year-old dependent is still showing N/A on the transcript. I've been checking EVERY SINGLE DAY and it's driving me crazy! I even called the IRS twice but couldn't get through. Did yours update yet? I feel like I'm in tax limbo!

One thing to consider is whether you claimed any refundable credits besides the Child Tax Credit. The Earned Income Credit or American Opportunity Credit can also trigger additional review. I always tell my friends it's like the IRS plays "tax return bingo" - if you hit too many special categories (dependent under 17, education credits, self-employment income), you win the prize of waiting longer! 😂 But seriously, as long as WMR doesn't show an error, you're probably fine.

Just wanted to share a success story that might help. I was in the same situation last year according to the IRS2Go app. Filed three family returns on the same day through TurboTax. Two processed quickly, but mine with a child under 17 sat with N/A transcript for almost 4 weeks. Then suddenly one Tuesday morning everything updated at once, and my refund was deposited two days later. The IRS Where's My Refund tool never showed any issues - it just took longer because of the additional verification steps.
