Filed Jan 15 - Refund on Temporary Hold with Letter Coming March 29

I filed Jan 15 & got accepted on 2/10. So I just got off the phone with the IRS... my refund is on a temporary hold. A letter is going to be issued out on the 29th of this month. It might take up to 2 weeks for the letter 2 come, then after an additional week and a half of waiting the refund is going to be released. It's a lot of ppl tax return that's on hold so some of us are basically getting our returns the end of April or beginning of may 😩

This is actually very common this tax season. The IRS has been placing holds on returns for various verification processes. The letter you'll receive is likely a CP05 notice, which means they're verifying income, withholding, or credits claimed. It doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem - just that they're double-checking information. The timeline they gave you is accurate based on current processing backlogs.

Did they tell you why it's on hold? Sometimes they'll at least give you a hint about what they're verifying.

Nah they just said it's a 'random verification' but wouldn't tell me what exactly they're verifying. The lady did say it's happening to tons of people tho

I went through this EXACT same thing last year. Filed early February, got the hold notification, waited for the letter which took forever to arrive. The most frustrating part was trying to get someone on the phone to explain what was happening! I finally used Claimyr.com to get through to an agent (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and they confirmed it was just a random verification of my income. Once I knew what was happening, I felt so much better. Got my refund about 10 days after talking to them.

Is Claimyr worth the money though? I've been on hold with the IRS for hours and never get through.

100% worth it for me. I wasted like 6 hours trying to call them myself over 3 days. With Claimyr I was talking to an actual IRS person in like 25 minutes. They just navigate the phone tree for you and call when an agent is ready. Saved me so much stress.

When you get the letter, make sure to check your transcript too. I had a similar situation and my transcript showed codes that explained exactly what was happening before the letter even arrived. I used taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it told me exactly what each code meant and gave me a timeline of when to expect my refund. Was pretty spot on with the prediction too.

I'll definitely check that out. I tried looking at my transcript but all those codes are confusing af

This happened to me last month. The hold was because I claimed Child Tax Credit and they were just verifying my kids' info. The letter just asked me to confirm some information. I sent it back right away and got my refund about 2 weeks later. It's annoying but at least they're processing them eventually.

Same boat here. Filed January 20th, accepted same day, and got the same call about a hold. My letter arrived yesterday (took 16 days, not the 14 they promised 🙄). It's asking me to verify my identity through ID.me or by calling them. Hoping this speeds things up because I need this money for car repairs.

Let me know how long it takes after you verify! Hope you get yours soon

Will do! The agent I spoke with said it should be about 9 business days after verification, but we'll see if they actually stick to that timeline.
