Filed February 10th - Blank Transcripts Until Today - Finally Got My Refund Date!
I am a weekly cycle filer, submitted and accepted on 2/10/2024. I have had completely blank transcripts the entire time. No notifications, nothing! 😫 I literally checked one hour ago, then went back in just now to show my husband what it was doing. I got a deposit date of 4/12 just now at 10:20 CT Thursday. This tax season sucked so much but I am so happy it's finally there! 🎉 Hope you all get yours soon ❤️ Is this normal for transcripts to update so suddenly? In my home country, the tax process was very different, so I am still learning how everything works here.

Omg that's exactly like what happened to me too! My transcripts were totally blank for weeks just like yours, which was wayyy different from last year when mine updated right away. I've been checking mine like 5 times a day and nothing until yesterday when - boom! - suddenly everything was there. It's like the IRS systems just batch process everything at once rather than doing gradual updates.

I've seen this pattern quite a few times, actually. The IRS transcript system doesn't update in real-time; it tends to refresh in batches. Sometimes you might check for weeks with no change, and then suddenly everything appears at once. It's just how their systems work, unfortunately.

Thanks for sharing this! I think a lot of people don't realize that the IRS systems operate on these weekly cycles. The Master File updates typically happen once a week for most accounts, which is why we often see these sudden changes rather than gradual updates. It's especially stressful for those new to the US tax system.

So glad I found this thread! I was going crazy checking my transcripts every few hours and seeing nothing. Just checked after reading this and finally have a DDD of 4/10! What a relief after weeks of nothing. 😅

According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.4.1, the IRS processes returns in cycles that complete weekly, usually on Fridays. I've been waiting since January 29th with blank transcripts and really needed this money for rent. Just got my DDD yesterday after 9 weeks of waiting. The system is broken but at least it eventually works.

Are you perhaps claiming any credits that might have delayed your processing? Sometimes, certain credits like the Earned Income Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit can potentially trigger additional verification processes, which might explain the delay and sudden update.

It's like when your computer freezes and you keep clicking - nothing happens until suddenly everything happens at once. The IRS works the same way with their batch processing system. They collect thousands of returns, process them together, then update all the associated transcripts at once. That's why you went from nothing to a complete update in an instant.

Did you get any codes on your transcript when it finally updated? Like a 570/971 combo or anything? Just wondering what your transcript actually shows now that it's updated.

I went through the exact same situation last year with blank transcripts for weeks. If you need to check on your refund status or have questions, calling the IRS directly can be nearly impossible this time of year. I used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) after spending days trying to get through on my own. They connected me to an IRS agent in about 15 minutes when I couldn't get through for days on my own. Have you tried calling to see if they can give you more information about why yours took so long? Sometimes they can see things that aren't showing on the transcripts yet.

I had a similar experience with my 2023 return filed in February. Transcript showed N/A until the exact day of my Cycle Code update (TC 150). The moment it populated, I had a Direct Deposit Date (846 code) scheduled for the following Wednesday. The IRS processing pipeline appears to hold transcript updates until all verification steps are complete, rather than showing partial processing. Congratulations on your upcoming deposit!

Did you notice any specific patterns with your transcript update? I'm trying to understand: • What day of the week did your transcript update? • Was there any correlation between your cycle code and update timing? • Did you receive any interim notices before the full update? I'm trying to make sense of these patterns for my own situation.

This is so helpful! I've been staring at blank transcripts for weeks and starting to worry something was wrong with my return. Gives me hope that it might just suddenly appear like yours did!

Just to clarify - when you say it populated with a DDD for the following Wednesday, do you mean the 846 code showed a date that was exactly one week after your transcript updated? Or was it a different timeframe?

I think what happens is that the IRS doesn't update the transcripts until they've completed all the processing steps. So rather than seeing partial progress, we just see nothing until everything is done. That's why it seems to happen all at once.

Did u have any PATH Act credits on ur return? Like EITC or ACTC? Those always cause delays till at least mid-Feb, but ur timeline seems even longer than usual. Just wondering if there's something specific that might've flagged ur return for extra review?

And did you get any notices in the mail before your transcript updated? Sometimes they send letters that explain delays even when the transcript is still blank.

The PATH Act only holds refunds with certain credits until February 15th, but processing can still continue after that date. What we're seeing this year is that even non-PATH returns are taking longer than usual due to high volume and verification processes.

My return had EITC and took 8 weeks to process this year compared to 3 weeks last year. The whole system seems backed up regardless of what credits you claim.

Thanks for bringing this up! I was wondering the same thing about PATH Act credits. This information is really helpful for understanding why some returns take so much longer than others.

I've been filing US taxes for about 7 years now after moving here, and I've noticed that checking the account transcript rather than the return transcript sometimes shows updates sooner. Last year my return transcript was blank for weeks but my account transcript showed a processing date. Might be worth checking both types if you're anxiously waiting like I was! It's still nerve-wracking every year, especially when you're not familiar with the system.

I filed on 2/12 and just got my refund yesterday. My transcript updated similarly - nothing for weeks then suddenly everything at once. I had a 570 code appear first (refund hold), then a 971 (notice issued), and finally the 846 (refund issued) all within a 48-hour period. The IRS told me they had to verify some information on my return, but I never received any letters asking for documentation. These sudden transcript updates seem to be happening to a lot of people this filing season.
