Filed 1/24 Accepted 1/30 - Still on PATH Message?

Is anybody else possibly still seeing the PATH message on Where's My Refund? I e-filed on January 24th, received acceptance notification on January 30th, and I'm still essentially seeing no movement whatsoever. It's somewhat concerning given that we're approaching mid-March. I'm fairly certain that my return was relatively straightforward, though I did claim some business expenses as usual. I typically receive my refund by mid-February in previous years, so this delay is potentially impacting some business equipment purchases I had planned.

The PATH Act delays are hitting hard this year! šŸ™ƒ You're definitely not alone - I filed Jan 22nd and just got my refund yesterday. The system seems particularly backed up this season, probably because they're still catching up from the staffing issues last year. I'd start getting a little worried if nothing changes by next week... that's when you might want to consider calling the IRS to make sure nothing's flagged on your return.

Is there a specific timeline we should expect for PATH Act delays this year? I'm seeing conflicting information online about whether it's 21 days from acceptance or some other metric. The technical documentation isn't clear on processing benchmarks for 2024 filings.

Did you claim the Earned Income Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit? Those are typically what trigger the PATH Act delays. Also, have you checked your transcript to see if there are any codes that might explain the delay?

According to Internal Revenue Code Section 6402(m), the IRS is required to hold refunds involving certain credits until at least February 15th. However, the regulation doesn't specify a maximum timeframe for processing after that date, which creates uncertainty for many filers in similar situations.

I processed exactly 164 returns this season, and approximately 37% of my clients who filed before January 31st with refundable credits are still waiting. The average wait time has been 42 days compared to 28 days last year. It's definitely taking longer for PATH Act returns in 2024.

I've been checking the IRS2Go app daily and reading through the r/IRS threads, and it seems like a lot of early filers are still stuck. When I finally got frustrated enough to call the IRS, I spent 3 hours on hold before giving up. Then I found https://claimyr.com which got me through to an actual IRS agent in about 30 minutes. The agent confirmed my return was just in normal processing with no issues flagged. Sometimes you just need that peace of mind to know nothing's wrong, you know?

I was in your exact position last year! Filed January 25th, accepted January 28th, and then NOTHING until March 18th. I was checking WMR obsessively every morning. The funny thing is, my refund randomly appeared in my bank account on March 20th without WMR ever updating past the first bar. My transcript updated about a week before the deposit hit though, so that was the better indicator. This year I filed February 2nd and got my refund on February 28th, so it seems pretty random.

The IRS system is like that old printer we had in college - sometimes it works perfectly, other times it jams for no reason and needs to be kicked a few times. I've never seen such inconsistency in a government system. My sister filed a week after me with almost identical info and got her refund three weeks before mine!

Thanks for sharing this. I filed on January 26th, 2024 and I'm still waiting. It's helpful to know others have experienced similar timelines and eventually received their refunds without any action needed.

Same experience here. Filed early. Got delayed. No explanation. Transcript updated first. WMR never changed. Money appeared suddenly. No rhyme or reason to their process. Just wait it out. It'll come.

Have you checked your transcript online? That's usually more informative than WMR. If you're seeing any codes like 570/971, you might want to understand what they mean. I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript last week when I was confused about some weird codes. It explained everything in plain English and gave me an estimated deposit date that turned out to be spot on. As a small business owner myself, I know how frustrating it is when you're counting on that money for equipment purchases.

Has anyone else tried this? I'm a bit hesitant to use third-party services for tax stuff, even if they're just for analysis.

I used it when I got confused about the cycle codes on my transcript. It doesn't ask for any sensitive information - you just upload your transcript and it explains what everything means. Helped me understand that my return was actually being processed normally despite the delay.

The IRS transcript page says my 2023 return transcript is not available. Does that mean they haven't started processing it yet, or could there be another reason? I'm wondering if taxr.ai would work in my situation or if I need to wait until there's actually a transcript to analyze.

If your transcript isn't available yet, that usually means they haven't fully processed your return in the system. Once processing begins in earnest, you'll see the transcript appear with various codes. That's when tools like that become helpful for deciphering what stage you're at.

I'm in almost the identical situation. Filed 1/22, accepted 1/28, still nothing. Meanwhile my sister who filed on 2/15 already got her refund last week. The processing order seems completely random this year compared to previous tax seasons when it was more first-come-first-served. I've noticed that people with simple W-2 only returns seem to be getting processed faster than those of us with any kind of business income or deductions, even if we filed earlier.
