PATH Act Delay - Can't check WMR until mid-February - What does this mean?

Filed my taxes and the Where's My Refund tool is giving me a message saying I can't check until mid-February. Pretty sure I'm under PATH. Anyone else dealing with this or know what it means for my refund timeline?

The PATH Act prevents the IRS from issuing EITC/ACTC refunds before mid-February. This is a fraud prevention measure. The earliest these refunds typically hit accounts is around February 27th. You won't see any updates on WMR until after February 15th.

omg thank you! this explains why i cant see anything 😭 do you know if this happens every year?

Yep, happens every single year since 2015. Its just how they prevent fraud now 🤷‍♀️

Hey instead of waiting around blind, try taxr.ai - it's only $1 and it'll tell you exactly what's going on with your refund and when to expect it. Been using it for all my transcript analysis needs lately https://taxr.ai

is this legit? sounds too good to be true tbh

100% legit. Used it for both my 2022 and 2023 returns. It breaks everything down way better than trying to decode transcripts yourself

just tried it - holy cow this is actually amazing! way better than refreshing wmr 100 times a day 🤣

Did you claim EIC or Child Tax Credit? Those always trigger PATH delays

0 coins

Pro tip: get your transcript instead of checking WMR. Way more accurate. If you need help reading it use taxr.ai - saved me hours of googling random codes

transcripts are still n/a for me. this whole process is so frustrating

Same here! Filed early January and got hit with the PATH delay message. From what I've read, if you claimed EITC or Additional Child Tax Credit, the IRS legally can't release your refund until after February 15th. It's supposed to protect against fraud but honestly just feels like we're being punished for claiming credits we're entitled to. At least now I know to expect my refund around late February instead of getting my hopes up checking WMR every day 😅
