Filed Jan 15, Accepted Jan 21, But Transcript Shows "No Tax Return Filed" - Need Help Understanding IRS Account Transcript
My transcript is looking really weird this year and I'm completely lost. Filed January 15th and got accepted January 21st. Never had issues before but now I'm seeing Form 1040 everywhere and I dont understand what I'm looking at. Can someone break this down for me? I just pulled my Account Transcript from the IRS website and I'm totally confused. Here's exactly what I'm seeing: Internal Revenue Service United States Department of the Treasury This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data Request Date: 01-28-2025 Response Date: 01-28-2025 Account Transcript FORM NUMBER: 1040 TAX PERIOD: Dec. 31, 2024 ACCOUNT BALANCE: 0.00 ACCRUED INTEREST: 0.00 AS OF: Feb. 12, 2025 ACCRUED PENALTY: 0.00 AS OF: Feb. 12, 2025 ACCOUNT BALANCE PLUS ACCRUALS (this is not a payoff amount): 0.00 .. INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN OR AS ADJUSTED .. EXEMPTIONS: 00 FILING STATUS: Head of Household ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: TAXABLE INCOME: TAX PER RETURN: SE TAXABLE INCOME TAXPAYER: SE TAXABLE INCOME SPOUSE: TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX: RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT TRANSACTIONS CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION CYCLE DATE AMOUNT No tax return filed This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data What's going on? I definitely filed on January 15th and got an acceptance message on January 21st, but this transcript is saying "No tax return filed" and "RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT." Why does it keep showing Form 1040 everywhere if my return isn't there? The filing status shows Head of Household which is correct, but there's missing information for all the income fields. Is this normal at this stage of processing? Should I be worried? I've never seen a transcript look like this before, and I'm concerned my return might be lost in the system somehow. Can someone explain what all these codes mean and if I need to take any action?

Let me break this down for you. When you see Form 1040 on your transcript after filing and acceptance, it's actually normal. The acceptance just means the IRS received your return - now they're processing it. Looking at the dates, you filed 1/15 and got accepted 1/21, which is pretty standard timing. The Form 1040 entry is just showing that your return is in their system. If you want a really detailed analysis of your transcript and estimated refund date, I'd recommend checking out https://taxr.ai - it's this new AI tool that breaks down all your transcript codes and gives you a precise timeline. Helped me understand exactly what was going on with my return.

Form 1040 is just your basic tax return form - its the main document everyone uses to file their federal taxes. What exactly looks weird to you on the transcript? Different codes or dates throwing you off?

Oh that makes sense! Yeah there's all these codes like 150 and 570 that I've never seen before

Those are transaction codes. 150 means your return was processed, 570 indicates they're holding your refund for review

Here's a detailed breakdown of what you're looking at: The Form 1040 is your standard tax return form - everyone uses it. The transcript shows a timeline of actions taken on your return with specific codes. Common ones you might see: - Code 150: Return processed - Code 570: Refund hold - Code 971: Notice issued - Code 846: Refund issued But honestly, trying to decode these manually is super frustrating. I started using taxr.ai and it's been a game changer. It analyzes everything automatically and tells you exactly what's happening with your refund. Best $5 I've spent during tax season!
