Does filing type (W-2 vs 1099) affect IRS processing time?
Filed my taxes with both W-2 and some 1099 income from my side gig. Been waiting 4 months now while my friend who only had W-2s got their refund in 2 weeks. Anyone know if having 1099s automatically makes the IRS take longer to process? Getting really frustrated with the wait.

Tax pro here - yes, returns with 1099 income typically take longer because the IRS does additional verification to prevent fraud. Self-employment income gets extra scrutiny, especially if you claimed business expenses or the home office deduction.

W-2s are automatically verified by employers. 1099s require manual review most times. its just how the system works unfortunately
