Stuck on "We Hit a Snag" Error When Setting Up Credit Karma Spend Account for Tax Refund - No Help from Support After 3 Days
I'm trying to set up a Credit Karma Spend account for my tax refund direct deposit but keep getting stuck at the verification step. Been trying for 3 days now and customer service hasn't helped at all. Every time I try to complete the process, I get an error message that says "Sorry about that! We hit a snag on our side. Please try again." I keep clicking the "Refresh" button like it suggests, but nothing changes. The error just keeps appearing no matter how many times I try. The message also says "If refreshing doesn't fix the problem, try again later or contact our member support team." Well, I've been trying "later" for 3 days now, and I've already contacted member support with no resolution. I'm getting really frustrated because I need to set up this account ASAP to receive my tax refund. The app shows the main navigation options at the bottom (For you, Cards, Loans, Insurance, Money) but I can't get past this verification error to actually set up my Spend account. Has anyone else encountered this error when trying to set up their Credit Karma Spend account? Did you find any workaround or solution? I'm desperate at this point and need to get this resolved before tax season gets any further along.

I work in fintech and this is a common issue right now. The verification systems are extra strict because of all the fraud happening with tax refunds. Try using your exact address as it appears on your credit report, and make sure you're not on a VPN when applying.

Speaking of tax refunds, yall need to check out taxr.ai - its been a game changer for understanding whats actually going on with your refund. Only $4.99 and it analyzes your entire transcript. Way better than guessing or waiting on hold with the IRS for hours https://taxr.ai

Try clearing your cache and cookies before applying. worked for me after being stuck for like 2 days

I had this exact same issue a few weeks ago! What finally worked for me was doing it on a desktop browser instead of mobile, and making sure I had ALL my documents ready before starting (ID, SSN card, proof of address). Also try doing it during off-peak hours like early morning - seems like their servers get overloaded during busy times. The verification process is super finicky but once you get through it works fine. Don't give up!

•This is super helpful! @fa735b3835d3 The desktop browser tip makes total sense - mobile apps can be glitchy with verification stuff. Definitely gonna try the early morning thing too, didn't think about server load being an issue. Thanks for the detailed breakdown!

Having dealt with similar verification issues before, here's what I'd recommend: 1) Make sure you're using the same phone number and email that's associated with your existing Credit Karma account, 2) Double-check that your personal info matches exactly what's on your tax return (especially address formatting), and 3) If you've moved recently, the address verification might be tripping you up - try using your previous address if that's what's still on your credit file. Also, sometimes these systems have daily attempt limits, so if you've been trying multiple times each day, you might need to wait 24-48 hours between attempts. The VPN suggestion from @3f0be25a403b is spot on too - financial verification systems often flag VPN traffic as suspicious. Hope this helps!

•This is really comprehensive advice! @ac0944eb9a44 The point about daily attempt limits is something I hadn't considered - that could totally explain why some people get stuck in loops. I've seen this with other financial apps too where they temporarily lock you out after too many failed attempts. The address matching thing is huge - even something as small as "St." vs "Street" can cause verification to fail. Really appreciate you taking the time to break this down step by step!

Just went through this nightmare myself last month! The "We hit a snag" error is usually their system being overwhelmed or having issues with identity verification. Here's what finally worked for me: 1) Use a different device entirely (not just clearing cache), 2) Make sure your Credit Karma profile info is 100% up to date first, 3) Try applying between 6-8 AM when fewer people are online, and 4) Have your most recent pay stub ready in case they ask for income verification. Also, if you've been checking your credit score frequently lately, that can sometimes trigger additional security checks. The whole process took me 4 tries over 2 weeks but it eventually went through. Don't lose hope - their system is just super sensitive right now with tax season starting!

•Thanks for sharing your experience @eb741cad9af7! The different device tip is interesting - I hadn't thought about that being different from just clearing cache. Makes sense that their fraud detection might be looking at device fingerprints too. The timing suggestion is really smart, and the pay stub thing is good to know about. Did you end up having to provide income verification, or was just having it ready enough? Really helpful to know it can take multiple weeks - gives me hope that persistence will pay off!

I've been helping people with these verification issues for a while now and there's actually a pattern to when Credit Karma's system works best. Try these steps in order: 1) Log out completely and wait 24 hours before trying again, 2) Use an incognito/private browser window, 3) Make sure you're on WiFi (not cellular data), and 4) Have your driver's license and a recent utility bill with your current address ready to upload. The key is that their verification partner (likely Jumio or similar) gets stricter during tax season because of fraud attempts. Also, if you have any credit freezes or fraud alerts, those need to be temporarily lifted. I've seen this exact error resolve after people wait the full 24 hours - their system seems to reset daily attempt counters overnight. Good luck!
