Can boyfriend claim my 3 kids as dependents if he supports them? SAHM with no income
Been a stay at home mom for 1.5 years with no income. My boyfriend and I live together, we have one child together and he's been raising my other 2 kids since they were babies. I usually claim them on taxes but since I didn't work this year, can he claim all 3 kids? He provides most of the financial support for our household.

This depends on several factors. For non-biological children, your boyfriend must meet the qualifying relative test. The children must have lived with him for the entire year, he must provide more than half their support, and they can't have earned more than $4,400. For your shared biological child, he can claim them if they lived with him for more than half the year and he provided more than half their support. Just living together doesn't automatically qualify him - documentation of financial support is crucial.

Thank u! So if he pays all the bills and buys everything they need that would count as support right?

Yes, but keep records! Housing costs, food, clothing, medical expenses, education - document everything. The IRS might ask for proof.

Hey! I just dealt with this exact situation. Used taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and figure out dependent eligibility. It costs $1 but totally worth it - gave me a clear answer about who could claim the kids. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

Does the biological father of the older 2 kids claim them on his taxes? That could be an issue
