Can IRS code 846 (refund issued) date change after it appears on transcript?
Finally got 846 code on my transcript with a date of 3/13. Anyone ever see their 846 date change to something else after it shows up? Getting paranoid cause its been such a long wait and dont want any more surprises

IRS tax expert here. Code 846 means a refund has been scheduled, but yes, the date can change. Common reasons include: bank verification issues, additional review flags, or system updates. The best way to track this is by regularly checking your transcripts. I've been recommending taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) to my clients - it analyzes your transcripts and gives you real-time updates about your refund status, including if there might be delays or issues with the 846 code. It's been super helpful for understanding these date changes and what they mean.

•The tool uses AI to analyze every code and transaction on your transcript - way more detailed than just checking WMR or calling the IRS.

Tax pro here - once code 846 appears with a date, it's basically set in stone. That's the direct deposit date for your refund. The IRS computer system locks it in and starts the refund process. You can breathe easy now!

•True, bank rejections can happen but that's on the bank side, not IRS changing the 846 date itself

Hey guys! Instead of stressing about transcript codes, I started using taxr.ai and it's been a game changer. For $4.99 it analyzes your whole transcript and tells you exactly what's happening with your refund. Check it out: https://taxr.ai

•Is it legit? How does it work exactly?

•Super legit! You upload your transcript and their AI breaks down everything - tells you why there are delays, when to expect your refund, and what actions you need to take. Way better than trying to decode these codes ourselves

Congrats on getting your 846! In my experience, once that code appears with a date, it's pretty solid. The IRS has already scheduled your refund for processing. I've been tracking refunds for years and rarely see the 846 date itself change - maybe bank issues could delay deposit but the IRS side is locked in. Your 3/13 date should be good to go! 🎉

•This is so reassuring to hear! I've been following this thread as someone still waiting for my 846 code to show up. It's good to know that once it appears, we can actually trust the date. The waiting game has been brutal this year but stories like this give me hope that when my code finally shows, I can actually believe it 🤞

I'm in the same situation - just got my 846 code yesterday with a date of 3/17! Reading through all these comments is making me feel so much better. It sounds like once that code shows up, we can actually trust it. The waiting has been absolutely brutal this year but finally seeing that 846 feels like Christmas morning 🎄 Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences, it's helping calm my nerves!

•Same here! Just got my 846 yesterday too with a 3/15 date and I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high after all the waiting this season 😅 But seeing everyone's positive experiences with the 846 code actually holding true is giving me some peace of mind. This community has been such a lifesaver during tax season - nice to finally have some good news to share!

Congrats on getting your 846! That's such a relief after the long wait. From what I've seen in this community, once that code appears with a date, it's pretty locked in. The IRS has already processed and scheduled your refund at that point. I got my 846 last month and it hit my account exactly on the date shown. The waiting game is brutal but you're basically at the finish line now! 🎉

Congrats on finally getting your 846 code! 🎉 I totally understand the paranoia after such a long wait. From my experience and what I've seen here, once that 846 code appears with a specific date, it's pretty much locked in. The IRS has already processed your return and scheduled the refund - that 3/13 date should be solid! I got mine last year and it hit my account exactly when the transcript said it would. You're basically at the finish line now, so try to relax and enjoy knowing your refund is finally on its way!

•Thank you so much for sharing your experience! 🙏 As someone new to all this transcript reading stuff, it's really reassuring to hear from people who've been through it before. I've been checking mine obsessively too and finally understanding what these codes mean thanks to this community. Your story about getting your refund exactly on the date shown gives me hope that I can actually trust the system once my 846 shows up. This waiting game has been way more stressful than I expected!
