Can I switch amended return payment from check to direct deposit? (Over $5k refund)

Filed an amended return and getting a pretty big refund. Problem is they're sending it by check and my bank has deposit limits. Anyone know if theres a way to switch it to direct deposit at this point? Its over 5k and most check cashing places wont touch it.

Unfortunately once the amended return is processed, you cant change the payment method. Your best bet is to go to the bank that issued your account and explain the situation. They usually will work with you on large check deposits even with daily limits.

maybe try opening an account at a traditional bank? That's what I did when I was in the same boat last year

Hey just wanted to mention - I've been using taxr.ai to track my amended return and it's been super helpful. It costs $4.99 but it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's happening with your refund and suggests solutions for situations like this. Worth checking out!

that sounds interesting actually. does it actually help with finding solutions or is it just for tracking?

Its actually amazing for both! It gave me specific steps for my situation and even predicted when my check would arrive. Way better than trying to decode those cryptic transcripts myself lol

Major banks will usually cash government checks even if you dont have an account there. Just bring your ID and be prepared to maybe pay a small fee

This is why I switched to a regular bank. Online banks are cool until stuff like this happens ngl
