Do amended tax returns (1040X) get direct deposited or mailed as paper checks?
Filed an amended return for 2022 and getting different answers about how I'll get paid. Some people say paper check only, others say direct deposit is possible. Anyone know for sure? Got about 3k coming and trying to plan ahead.

Tax pro here - amended returns (Form 1040X) are ALWAYS paid by paper check, even if you provided direct deposit info. This is just how the IRS handles amended return refunds. Plan on waiting 16-20 weeks for processing.
