California Tax Rebate: Has Anyone Received the Middle Class Tax Refund Yet?
According to the California Franchise Tax Board website (https://www.ftb.ca.gov/), they've begun distributing the Middle Class Tax Refund payments this month. Has anyone in this forum received theirs yet? My wife and I filed jointly for the first time this year, and I'm tracking all expected payments in our financial planning spreadsheet. Just seeking data points on distribution timeline. ☺️

The Middle Class Tax Refund distribution began on October 7, 2024, and is scheduled to continue through January 15, 2025. According to the official schedule published on September 23, 2024, direct deposits are being issued in batches based on the last name. A-M should receive payments between October 7-21, while N-Z will receive them between October 28-November 14. Paper checks follow a similar alphabetical schedule but extend through mid-January.

•Thanks for the timeline. Have you seen any reports on the FTB forums about whether they're actually adhering to that schedule? I checked the California Tax Subreddit and TaxTwitter but haven't seen many confirmations of actual deposits yet.

•Are they really sticking to that alphabetical schedule though? In my experience with government payments, the published schedules rarely match reality. Didn't the last rebate program in 2022 end up taking nearly three months longer than initially announced?

Just got mine yesterday (October 12). For reference: • Filed jointly in March 2024 • AGI was around $95k • Received $750 total ($375 each) • Direct deposit to same account as tax refund • Last name begins with G The FTB website has a calculator to estimate your amount if you're wondering how much you'll get.

•I also got mine yesterday! We're in the $85-100k bracket too, and received the same amount. Seems like they're processing similarly situated taxpayers in batches regardless of last name. My last name starts with W, so maybe they're ahead of schedule?

•Thanks for breaking this down so clearly! The bullet points make it so much easier to compare to my own situation. I'm in the same income bracket but filed single, so this helps set my expectations.

•Really appreciate this info! Been checking my account daily since October 1st. Car payment due next week and I'm counting on this refund. Last name starts with D so hopefully mine comes through in the next batch!

Dealing with state tax rebates is like navigating a maze with constantly changing walls. I've been tracking the Middle Class Tax Refund rollout, and it's frustrating how little transparency there is about the exact schedule. If you're trying to understand your eligibility or timeline, I've found https://taxr.ai extremely helpful for analyzing your tax situation. It helped me understand why my rebate amount was different than expected based on my filing status and AGI from my transcript.

•Is this just another paid service that tells you information you can get for free from the FTB website? The eligibility calculator on the official site seems pretty straightforward. What specific insights does this tool provide that aren't available through official channels?

I received mine on October 9th. Here's what I did to track and confirm it: 1. First, I created an account on the FTB website if you don't already have one 2. Next, I went to the "Tax Records" section and selected "View Payments" 3. Then I looked for entries labeled "Middle Class Tax Refund" 4. I also verified the amount matched the calculator's estimate 5. Finally, I checked my bank account to confirm the deposit The payment showed up as "CA FTB MCTR" in my bank transaction history.

I just got my rebate today, but it was much more complicated than the regular tax refund process. Compared to the federal refund which I received within 21 days of filing, this state rebate took nearly 7 months from when they announced it! If you're having trouble reaching the FTB to ask about your rebate, I used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to a representative after failing to reach anyone for two days. Their callback system saved me from being on hold for hours.

Got mine yesterday. $850 total. Joint filers. Last name starts with E. No issues with direct deposit. FTB website showed pending for a week before deposit hit. Worth checking your account there.

I've been tracking the MCTR distribution metrics across several online forums, and there appears to be a correlation between filing method and distribution timeline. E-filers with direct deposit information on file are receiving payments approximately 5-7 business days earlier than those in the same alphabetical cohort who filed paper returns. Additionally, taxpayers who utilized the Standard AGI Computation rather than the Alternative AGI Computation on their CA returns are seeing faster processing times by approximately 3 business days.

Successfully received my Middle Class Tax Refund yesterday. According to the California Revenue and Taxation Code Section 17052.10, which authorized this rebate, the payments must be completed by February 2025. However, the FTB has consistently delivered ahead of statutory deadlines for similar programs. For those concerned about timing, the legislation specifies that all eligible recipients must receive payment, and the FTB cannot arbitrarily deny or delay legitimate claims beyond the statutory period.

Still waiting for mine here. Filed jointly in February, AGI around $78k, last name starts with K. Based on the alphabetical schedule mentioned earlier, I should have received it by now since K falls in the A-M range that was supposed to get payments by October 21st. Has anyone else with last names in the middle of the alphabet experienced delays? I'm wondering if there are other factors affecting the timeline beyond just alphabetical order.

•I'm in a similar situation - filed jointly in March with AGI around $82k and last name starts with L. Still haven't received mine either despite being in that A-M timeframe. From what I've been reading in other threads, it seems like the alphabetical schedule might not be as strict as initially announced. Some people are reporting that income brackets and filing method (e-file vs paper) might be bigger factors than last name. Have you tried checking the FTB website to see if there's any status update on your account?

•I'm experiencing the exact same delay! Filed jointly in early March, AGI $76k, last name starts with J. According to the original schedule, we should have definitely received ours by now. I called the FTB customer service line yesterday and after a 45-minute wait, the representative told me that while they are generally following the alphabetical timeline, there are several factors causing some batches to be processed out of order - including verification requirements for joint filers who changed their direct deposit information since their last return. She suggested checking the FTB online account portal every few days as the status can update without email notification. Hopefully we're just in the next wave of payments!

•I'm in the same boat! Filed jointly in April, AGI $74k, last name starts with M. Still waiting too. After reading through all these posts, it seems like the alphabetical system isn't as rigid as they initially announced. @Amara Nwosu thanks for sharing what the FTB rep told you - that s'really helpful context about joint filers potentially having additional verification steps. I ve'been checking my FTB account daily but no status changes yet. At least it sounds like we re'not alone in this delay. Hopefully the next batch includes all of us who are still waiting!

•I can relate to your frustration! I'm a single filer with AGI around $68k, last name starts with H, and I'm still waiting too. Filed electronically in early March with direct deposit info that hasn't changed in years. Based on what @Amara Nwosu shared about the FTB rep s'explanation, it sounds like there might be additional processing factors beyond just alphabetical order. I ve'been checking my FTB online account every couple of days as suggested, but no updates yet. It s'reassuring to see I m'not the only one in this situation - hopefully we ll'all see our payments in the next batch!

•I'm dealing with the same delay issue! Filed jointly in January, AGI $81k, last name starts with K. Still haven't received mine despite being well within that A-M timeframe that was supposed to wrap up by October 21st. After reading through @Amara Nwosu s'feedback from the FTB rep, it makes sense that joint filers might have additional verification steps slowing things down. I ve'noticed on the FTB subreddit that several people with similar situations joint (filers, middle-of-alphabet surnames, similar income ranges are) all reporting the same delays. At this point I m'just checking my online account every few days and trying to be patient. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences - it definitely helps to know this isn t'an isolated issue!

•I'm experiencing the exact same delay pattern! Filed jointly in February, AGI $79k, last name starts with I. Still waiting despite being in that A-M range. What's interesting is that @Amara Nwosu mentioned joint filers might have additional verification requirements - this could explain why so many of us married filing jointly folks are seeing delays regardless of our alphabetical placement. I ve'been tracking posts across different tax forums and there s'definitely a pattern of joint filers in our income bracket still waiting. Have any of you tried calling again recently to see if there are any updates on the verification process timeline?

•I'm in the exact same situation! Filed jointly in late February, AGI $77k, last name starts with K. Still haven't received mine either. After reading all these responses, it's clear that many joint filers in our alphabetical range are experiencing the same delays. @Amara Nwosu s'info about additional verification steps for joint filers really makes sense - that could explain why we re'all still waiting despite being in the A-M timeframe. I checked my FTB account this morning and still no status updates. At least we know we re'not alone in this! Hopefully the verification process wraps up soon and we get our payments in the next batch.

•Same situation here! Filed jointly in March, AGI $80k, last name starts with L. Still waiting too. After reading everyone's experiences, it's definitely looking like joint filers are experiencing systematic delays beyond the alphabetical schedule. @Amara Nwosu s'explanation about additional verification steps makes a lot of sense - it would explain why so many of us in similar situations are still waiting. I called the FTB again yesterday and got a similar response about joint filers potentially needing extra processing time. The rep couldn t'give me a specific timeline but said to keep checking my online account. At least it s'reassuring to see we re'all in the same boat rather than having individual issues!

•I'm experiencing the exact same delay! Filed jointly in February, AGI $83k, last name starts with J. Still haven't received mine either despite being well within that A-M timeframe. After reading @Amara Nwosu s'helpful info about additional verification for joint filers, it s'starting to make sense why so many of us are still waiting. I also noticed that most people who ve'received their payments so far seem to be either single filers or have AGIs outside our $75-85k range. Maybe there s'some additional review happening for joint filers in certain income brackets? I ve'been checking my FTB account every few days but no updates yet. Thanks for starting this thread - it s'really helpful to know this is a widespread issue rather than something specific to my return!

I'm also still waiting - filed jointly in March, AGI around $79k, last name starts with G. What's frustrating is that I should have been in the first wave according to the original alphabetical schedule, but here we are in late October with no payment. After reading through all these comments, it's becoming clear that the alphabetical system isn't the primary factor determining distribution order. The pattern seems to be that joint filers in the $75-85k income range are experiencing systematic delays, regardless of last name. I've checked my FTB online account multiple times and there's still no status update - it just shows my 2023 return information with no mention of the MCTR. Has anyone found a way to get more specific information about when our batch might be processed?

•I'm in the exact same situation! Filed jointly in February, AGI $78k, last name starts with F. Still waiting despite being in that early alphabetical range. After reading through all these responses, there's definitely a clear pattern emerging - it seems like joint filers in our specific income bracket are all experiencing these delays together. @Amara Nwosu s'insight about additional verification requirements for joint filers really explains a lot. I ve'been checking my FTB account daily but like you said, it just shows the regular 2023 return info with no MCTR status. Maybe we should start a separate thread specifically for joint filers still waiting so we can track when this batch finally gets processed? At least we know it s'not just us!

I'm a newcomer to this community but have been following this thread closely as I'm also waiting for my MCTR payment. Filed jointly in February, AGI around $81k, last name starts with D. Based on the original alphabetical schedule, I should have received mine weeks ago, but like many others here, I'm still waiting. It's really helpful to see all the data points everyone is sharing - it's clear there's a pattern of joint filers in the $75-85k range experiencing delays regardless of last name. I've been checking my FTB online account daily but no updates yet. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences, especially @Amara Nwosu for the insights from the FTB representative about additional verification steps. It's reassuring to know this isn't an individual issue but rather a systematic processing delay affecting many of us in similar situations.

•Welcome to the community! I'm also a newcomer here but have been dealing with the same frustrating situation. Filed jointly in early March, AGI $76k, last name starts with C, so I should have been in that first wave according to the original timeline. Like you and so many others in this thread, I'm still waiting despite being well within the A-M alphabetical range. It's actually somewhat comforting to see this clear pattern emerging - joint filers in our income bracket all experiencing the same systematic delays. @Amara Nwosu s'explanation about additional verification requirements really does seem to explain what s'happening to all of us. I ve'also been checking my FTB account obsessively with no updates beyond the standard 2023 return information. Hopefully this verification process wraps up soon and we all get our payments in the next batch. Thanks for sharing your situation - the more data points we have, the clearer the pattern becomes!

I'm also new to this community but have been closely monitoring this thread as I'm experiencing the exact same delay. Filed jointly in late January, AGI $82k, last name starts with B. According to the original alphabetical schedule, I should have been among the very first to receive the payment, but here I am still waiting like so many others. Reading through all these responses, there's definitely a clear pattern - joint filers in the $75-85k income bracket are systematically delayed regardless of where our last names fall alphabetically. I've been checking my FTB online account multiple times daily, but like everyone else, it only shows my standard 2023 return with no MCTR status information. What's particularly frustrating is the lack of transparency from FTB about these delays. @Amara Nwosu's information about additional verification requirements for joint filers is the most helpful explanation I've seen anywhere. Has anyone tried reaching out to their state representatives about this systematic delay affecting what appears to be thousands of joint filers? At this point, it seems like we need more official communication about the actual timeline for our specific situation.

•Welcome to the community! I'm also new here and in the exact same situation - filed jointly in early March, AGI $80k, last name starts with E. Should have been in that first alphabetical wave but still waiting like everyone else. It's actually really reassuring to see this pattern so clearly documented in this thread. The fact that virtually all of us are joint filers in the $75-85k range experiencing identical delays suggests this is definitely a systematic processing issue rather than individual problems. @Amara Nwosu s'insight about additional verification steps for joint filers seems to be the most logical explanation we ve'gotten anywhere. I agree about the frustrating lack of official communication from FTB - they should really update their website or send notifications about these delays affecting what s'clearly a large group of taxpayers. I ve'also been checking my FTB account obsessively with no status changes. Your idea about contacting state representatives is interesting - maybe if enough of us reach out, we can get some official clarification on the timeline for this verification process. Thanks for adding your data point to help confirm the pattern!

I'm also new to this community and experiencing the exact same delay pattern as everyone else here. Filed jointly in early February, AGI $77k, last name starts with A - so according to the original alphabetical schedule, I should have been literally first in line to receive the MCTR payment. But like so many others in this thread, I'm still waiting despite being well within that A-M timeframe that was supposed to wrap up by October 21st. Reading through all these responses has been incredibly helpful in understanding what's happening. The pattern is crystal clear: joint filers in the $75-85k income bracket are systematically delayed regardless of alphabetical placement. @Amara Nwosu's explanation about additional verification requirements for joint filers really seems to be the key insight here - it explains why virtually everyone sharing their delay story fits this exact profile. I've been checking my FTB online account daily since October 1st, but like everyone else, it only shows my standard 2023 return information with no MCTR status updates. What's particularly frustrating is that FTB hasn't provided any official communication about these delays affecting what appears to be a significant population of joint filers. Has anyone tried calling FTB recently to get an updated timeline specifically for joint filers going through this verification process? It would be helpful to know if there's at least an estimated completion date for whatever additional review they're conducting. Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences - it's really reassuring to know this is a widespread processing issue rather than individual problems with our returns.
