Anyone with Venmo waiting on SBTPG get their tax refund deposit yet?
It's been 8 days since my return was approved and the IRS sent my refund to SBTPG (Santa Barbara Tax Products Group). My tax transcript shows the money was sent but nothing's hit my Venmo account yet. Starting to get anxious since I need this money for car repairs. Anyone else using Venmo for their refund and still waiting on SBTPG to release the funds? How long did yours take?

SBTPG typically holds funds for 1-3 business days after receiving them from the IRS. This is normal processing time for them to verify the deposit and deduct any fees before forwarding to your Venmo account. Have you checked your SBTPG account status online? It should show if they've received the funds and what stage of processing they're in.

I'm in the same boat! My transcript shows the refund was issued 5 days ago, SBTPG shows 'payment pending' but nothing in my Venmo yet. This is my first time using Venmo for taxes and I'm kinda regretting it now. Did you have fees taken out of your refund? I've heard that can slow things down.

Yeah, I had my prep fees taken out. Their website just says "processing" but doesn't give any actual timeframe. Did you call their customer service line?

I tried calling yesterday but was on hold for 45 minutes before I had to hang up. Gonna try again tomorrow. Let me know if yours comes through!

I used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it showed my refund was actually sent to SBTPG two days earlier than the WMR tool was showing. It helped me understand exactly where my money was in the process. The refund hit my Venmo account about 48 hours after SBTPG received it. The tool explained all those weird codes on my transcript that show the actual payment dates.

I had this exact issue last month! SBTPG held my funds for 4 business days before sending to Venmo. The problem is that SBTPG's status page doesn't update in real-time. My refund showed as "processing" right up until it suddenly appeared in my Venmo. If your transcript shows the IRS sent the money, it's definitely coming - just on SBTPG's timeline, not yours unfortunately.

Honestly, after dealing with SBTPG delays last year, I just called the IRS directly this year to ask about direct deposit options. I used Claimyr.com to get through (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) - connected to an agent in like 15 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours. The agent explained I could have the IRS deposit directly to Venmo without going through SBTPG at all. Saved me the extra waiting time and their fees!

Wait, you can have the IRS deposit directly to Venmo without a middleman? I didn't know that was an option! Does that work even if you use tax prep software?

Yep! As long as you pay your tax prep fees upfront instead of taking them out of your refund. If you choose to pay fees from your refund, they force you through SBTPG or similar. But if you pay separately (like with a credit card), you can use your Venmo direct deposit info directly on your return!

Pro tip from someone who works in banking: SBTPG and other refund transfer companies make money by holding onto funds as long as possible while staying within their agreement terms. They're technically allowed to hold for up to 5 business days. Next year, avoid the whole SBTPG situation by paying your tax prep fees upfront instead of from your refund. Then you can direct deposit straight to any account without the middleman delay.
