Anyone with Greendot direct deposit received their tax refund yet?
I'm trying to figure out if there's a pattern with Greendot prepaid cards and tax refund timing. Here's what I've done so far: 1. E-filed on February 18th 2. Got acceptance notification on February 19th 3. WMR shows "refund approved" as of March 12th 4. Transcript shows 846 code with deposit date of March 15th I'm really counting on this refund for some medical appointments I've been putting off. Has anyone with Greendot specifically gotten their refund yet this season? Do they typically release funds on the exact date shown on transcript or do they hold them? I've heard mixed things about prepaid cards vs. regular bank accounts. Should I be worried?

OMG the Greendot situation is FRUSTRATING!! š” I've been waiting since February 10th and my transcript showed March 8th deposit date but STILL NOTHING! Their customer service is absolutely useless - just keeps saying "we release funds as soon as we receive them" but won't tell me if they've received anything! The IRS says it's been sent but Greendot can't find it! You need to call them ASAP and start tracing this before it gets lost in the void!

ā¢I appreciate your concern, but in my experience, Greendot typically does release funds within 24-48 hours of the deposit date shown on transcripts. It's possible there might be a system-wide delay affecting multiple customers, which could explain why customer service doesn't have specific information.

Did you use your Greendot account to pay for tax preparation fees? According to IRS Publication 1345 (Rev. 4-2023), when taxpayers choose to have preparation fees deducted from their refund, this creates a separate transaction path that can delay processing by 1-5 business days. Also, what filing status did you use? This affects processing time.

ā¢Haha, I never realized the payment method for prep fees could affect timing! Do you know if this applies even when using free filing options? Sometimes the little details are what trip people up.

ā¢This is just like what happens with those tax advance loans - they create a whole separate account pathway. I had a similar situation with Cash App last year and it was a nightmare compared to my previous experience with a credit union. The whole system needs an overhaul.

ā¢Think of prepaid cards like a middle-man in a relay race - they have to receive the baton (your money) from the IRS before passing it to you. Traditional banks sometimes have arrangements that let them credit your account before they actually receive the funds, which is why some people see their money earlier.

I was in the EXACT same situation with Greendot last year! I was refreshing my account every hour and driving myself crazy. I finally used https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it explained that the 846 code doesn't mean Greendot has received the money yet - just that the IRS sent it. The site helped me understand exactly where my refund was in the process and when it would actually hit my card. Saved me so much stress when I could see the actual timeline instead of guessing.

Greendot is notoriously slow w/ tax refunds IMO. Been using them for 5 yrs and they ALWAYS take longer than my friends w/ reg bank accts. WMR isn't reliable for prepaid cards. Check ur transcript for the 846 code - that's the REAL deposit date. Even then, GD usually takes 24-48 hrs after that date to post funds. Don't panic yet - if ur deposit date is 3/15, give it till Monday before freaking out. Their system batches deposits differently than traditional banks.

I had a similar situation with Greendot last year. My transcript showed March 17th but nothing appeared in my account until March 19th. I called the IRS over 30 times trying to figure out what happened - complete waste of time being on hold for hours. This year I used Claimyr.com and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes who confirmed my refund was sent but explained that prepaid cards often have a processing delay. Saved myself days of stress and redial attempts. Here's their link if you need it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

I might suggest... perhaps... checking with your tax preparer if you used one. They sometimes have more detailed information about the status of refunds than what's visible to us. Also, it may be worth considering that the IRS deadline for sending refunds with certain credits is technically 21 days, but this doesn't account for the receiving institution's processing time, which might add a day or two, especially with non-traditional financial institutions.

I've been tracking Greendot patterns for the past few tax seasons and noticed: ⢠Greendot typically posts IRS deposits 24-36 hours after the 846 date ⢠Deposits that fall on Friday often don't appear until Monday ⢠Their system updates around 3-4am EST most days ⢠Partial deposits sometimes appear first, then the remainder Can anyone confirm if this matches their experience this year? I'm still waiting on mine with a 3/20 deposit date.

I received my refund on Greendot exactly 37 hours after my transcript 846 date. My deposit date was March 8th at 12:01am according to my transcript, and the funds were available on March 9th at 1:24pm. The delay cost me $38 in late fees on a bill that was due on the 8th. If your transcript shows March 15th, I'd expect it to be available by end of day on the 16th or possibly Monday since that's a weekend.

I got my refund on Greendot yesterday after a similar timeline to yours. Have you checked if your Greendot account has any verification holds? Sometimes they place temporary holds on large deposits until you verify some information. Did you receive any text messages from them about verifying your deposit? How long have you been using this particular Greendot account?

I'm in a similar boat with Greendot - filed February 22nd, transcript shows 846 code with March 16th deposit date, but nothing yet. Based on what others are saying here, it sounds like the 24-48 hour delay after the transcript date is pretty normal for Greendot. I'm trying not to stress about it since March 16th was a Saturday, so realistically I'm probably looking at Monday or Tuesday. It's frustrating when you're counting on the money for important things like your medical appointments. Have you tried checking your account early in the morning? I've heard they sometimes update around 3-4am EST like someone mentioned above.

ā¢I'm in a similar situation too! Filed February 25th and my transcript shows March 17th deposit date with Greendot. Reading everyone's experiences here is actually really reassuring - sounds like that 24-48 hour delay is just standard for prepaid cards. I've been checking my account obsessively but I'm going to try to relax and wait until Tuesday or Wednesday before worrying. It's tough when you need the money for something important like medical bills, but at least we know it's coming! @Taylor To - have you tried setting up text alerts with Greendot? Sometimes they notify you when a deposit posts even before it shows up in the app.

I've been using Greendot for tax refunds for the past 3 years and can share some insights that might help ease your worry about the medical appointments. In my experience, Greendot is pretty reliable - they just run on a different timeline than traditional banks. The 846 code with March 15th date means the IRS has officially sent your refund, so it's definitely on its way. Since March 15th was a Friday, you'll likely see it Monday or Tuesday morning (around 3-4am like others mentioned). I've never had a refund actually get "lost" with Greendot, just delayed by their processing schedule. The good news is once it hits, you'll have your funds for those medical appointments. Try not to stress too much - your money is coming!

ā¢Thanks for sharing your experience with Greendot over multiple years - that's really helpful context! I'm new to using prepaid cards for tax refunds and wasn't sure what to expect. The timeline you described makes sense, especially with the weekend delay. It's reassuring to hear that in your experience refunds don't actually get lost, just delayed. I was starting to worry after reading some horror stories online, but it sounds like patience is key with Greendot. I'll stop obsessively checking my account every few hours and wait until Tuesday before getting concerned. Appreciate the reassurance about the funds definitely being on the way once you see that 846 code!
