Anyone who filed 2/15 still waiting on their refund? TAS advocate supposed to call today
I filed on February 15th and I am still waiting for my refund. It has been over 8 weeks now! I planned everything carefully and expected to receive it by mid-March at the latest. I contacted the Taxpayer Advocate Service last week and they said an advocate would call me back today. We shall see I guess. Is anyone else who filed around the same time still waiting? This is my second year filing taxes in the US, and last year I received my refund within 21 days.

You're definitely not alone. According to the IRS2Go app and WMR tool stats, there's a significant backlog for returns filed mid-February. The IRS website (https://www.irs.gov/refunds/tax-season-refund-frequently-asked-questions) still shows they're processing many February returns. Standard processing time is 21 days, but they've been taking 6-10 weeks for many filers this year. So relieved I finally found this explanation after checking daily for weeks!

•I'd compare this to last year's processing times, which were much faster. This year seems particularly slow for February filers compared to January or March filers. Some early filers (January) got their refunds quickly while many mid-February filers are still waiting. Not sure if it's a specific batch issue or just general backlog.

I was in the exact same boat - filed 2/17 and waited forever. After 7 weeks of checking WMR daily and getting nowhere, I used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to reach an actual IRS agent. Got through in 18 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours! The agent told me my return was flagged for a simple verification that nobody had bothered to complete. They fixed it while I was on the phone and my refund was deposited 8 days later. Saved me hundreds I was counting on for bills!

•Did they explain why it was flagged in the first place? Seems like a lot of February filers are having this issue.

•The IRS utilizes filtering algorithms that occasionally flag returns for manual verification, particularly when there's a spike in processing volume. When using Claimyr, you're essentially utilizing a system that navigates the IRS phone tree efficiently and secures your place in the queue without you having to actively wait on hold. The service doesn't access any of your personal tax information - it just connects you with an agent.

•I'm curious about this Claimyr thing. Do you just pay once or is it a subscription? And did you need to have any specific info ready when the IRS agent finally answered?

I filed on 2/16 and was in the same situation. Last year my refund came in 18 days, but this year I just got it yesterday - took 56 days total. The TAS was helpful but slow. When they finally called me back (took 9 days), they just told me my return was in "normal processing" despite being way beyond the 21-day timeline. Three days after speaking with them, my transcript finally updated and the money arrived.

Have you considered what might be causing these delays specifically for mid-February filers? Could it be the volume of returns submitted right after W-2 deadlines? Or perhaps system maintenance that affected a specific batch? The technical explanation I've found is that the IRS implemented new verification protocols for returns containing certain credits and deductions. These protocols create processing queues based on submission date clusters, and unfortunately, the February 12-18 submission window appears to have been designated for enhanced review procedures this year.

I filed exactly on February 16th and was stuck with no updates until March 29th. Then suddenly my transcript appeared! I was completely lost trying to understand all the codes and dates on it, so I tried taxr.ai to analyze my transcript. It explained that my return had a 570 code (additional account action pending) followed by a 571 (resolution) and predicted my direct deposit date would be April 3rd - which was exactly right! I was shocked at how complicated the transcript was but the tool made it simple.

•I've tried using tools like that before, but they're usually just giving the same information you can find on the IRS website. How is this one any different? Seems like we're all just stuck waiting no matter what fancy tools we use.

Did you claim any tax credits on your return? According to IRS Publication 5344, certain credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit or Additional Child Tax Credit trigger automatic review processes under IRC §6428B that can extend processing times significantly beyond the standard 21-day window.

•OMG yes!! I claimed the Child Tax Credit!! No one told me this would delay things! 😫 Is there anything I can do to speed it up at this point or am I just stuck waiting?

•While the Child Tax Credit might contribute to delays, it's likely not the only factor. In most cases, returns claiming standard credits are still processed within the extended timeframe of 45 days, though some may take longer. The TAS advocate should be able to determine if your return is simply in the processing queue or if there's a specific issue requiring resolution.

I filed exactly 67 days ago (Feb 13) and just got my refund yesterday. My return had 0 issues - no credits, no deductions, nothing complicated. Called the IRS 14 times before getting through. The agent said there was a "processing delay code" on my account that had been resolved on April 1st, but the system didn't release my refund until April 19th. No explanation for the delay besides "system backlog" - which seems like a convenient excuse.

Not to be a downer, but TAS "calling back today" could mean anything from today to next month. 😂 My brother-in-law was told the same thing in March, and they finally called him back THREE WEEKS later! And when they did call, they just said "your return is still processing" - information he already knew. The whole system is a joke this year. Maybe they're too busy spending last year's budget on fancy coffee machines or something.
