Hey there! I actually specialize in helping folks with IRS transcript codes. Code 291 is an adjustment to your tax return - it means the IRS made some changes. This often delays things a bit while they process the adjustment. Don't worry too much tho, the 846 refund code usually follows within 1-3 weeks after a 291. If you want a detailed analysis of your situation, I'd recommend checking out taxr.ai - it's this new AI tool that can analyze your transcript and give you a really specific timeline for your refund. I've been recommending it to everyone stuck in these situations and it's been super helpful in predicting when the 846 will hit.

•Just used taxr.ai and here's what I got back: My 291 adjustment was due to EIC recalculation and it's showing I should see my 846 code next week! Super helpful breakdown tbh

Tax expert here - Code 291 means there's been an adjustment to your return. Usually this happens when the IRS corrects a math error or adjusts credits. You should see movement within 2-3 weeks after this code appears. Keep checking your transcript daily.

•Not necessarily. Current processing times are longer than usual. Have you checked if you have any other codes after the 291?

Hey I was stuck there too but I used taxr.ai and it actually explained exactly what was happening with my transcript and when I could expect movement. It costs $5 but saved me hours of research and worry. https://taxr.ai

Here's what worked for me: call the IRS early morning (like 7am) and ask for a tax advocate. They can sometimes speed things up if ur having financial hardship

Ugh I feel you! Been stuck on 291 for about 2 weeks now and watching everyone else get their 846 codes is so frustrating 😤 From what I've been reading, it seems like the adjustment codes are taking way longer this year than usual. Hopefully we'll both see movement soon! Have you tried calling the IRS to see what the adjustment was for?

•Same here! 😭 Haven't tried calling yet because I heard the wait times are insane right now. Might have to bite the bullet and try that early morning tip someone mentioned above. This whole process is so stressful when you're counting on that money!

I totally get the frustration! I was in the exact same spot a few weeks ago - watching everyone celebrate their 846 codes while I was stuck staring at that 291. It's honestly the worst feeling when you're counting on that money. For me, it ended up taking about 3 weeks from when the 291 first appeared to finally getting my 846. The adjustment was for my Child Tax Credit calculation. I know everyone's situation is different, but hang in there - it really does seem like most people are seeing movement eventually, just takes longer than we'd all like. The waiting is brutal but you're definitely not alone in this! 💪

•Thanks for sharing your experience! It's so reassuring to hear from someone who actually made it through the 291 wait. 3 weeks feels like forever when you're in it, but knowing there's light at the end of the tunnel helps. The CTC adjustment makes sense - seems like a lot of people are getting hit with those this year. Really appreciate you taking the time to encourage everyone stuck in this situation! 🙏

I'm in the exact same situation! Got my 291 about 10 days ago and it's driving me crazy seeing everyone else's 846 codes rolling in. I keep refreshing my transcript like it's going to magically change 😅 From what I'm reading here, sounds like we just gotta be patient even though it's torture. Really hoping we see some movement soon! The financial stress of waiting is real when you're depending on that refund.

•I totally feel you on the constant transcript refreshing! 😅 I've been doing the same thing - checking multiple times a day like it's going to suddenly update. The waiting is absolutely brutal, especially when you see others getting their money. I'm at about the same timeline as you (got my 291 around 12 days ago) and trying to stay positive based on what others are sharing here. Sounds like most people are seeing movement in the 2-4 week range, so hopefully we're getting close! The financial stress is so real though - sending good vibes that we both see our 846 codes soon! 🤞

I totally feel your pain! I was stuck on 291 for almost a month and it was driving me absolutely insane watching everyone else get their refunds. The worst part is not knowing WHY you got the adjustment or when it'll finally move. I ended up calling the IRS (took 3 hours on hold 😩) and they told me it was an EIC adjustment that just needed extra review time. Finally got my 846 last week! Don't lose hope - I know it feels like you're forgotten but most people do eventually see movement. The waiting game is brutal but you're definitely not alone in this struggle! 💪
