766/768 codes showing - can offset still happen for past debts?
I see code 766 and 768 on my transcript but im worried about an offset. Not sure if I still need to be concerned about my refund being taken for old debts at this point or if seeing these codes means im in the clear? Anyone know if its still possible to get hit with an offset after these codes show up?

Once you see codes 766 (credit to your account) and 768 (earned income credit), any offsets would have already been applied. If there were going to be offsets, you would see code 898 for the offset amount. At this point, you should be receiving your refund as shown minus any offsets that were already processed.

•not entirely true - saw someone get hit with offset 2 days after these codes posted last month

•That's extremely rare but you're right, it can technically happen until the refund is actually issued.

Hey! Instead of stressing, you should try taxr.ai - it analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly whats happening including if offsets are likely. Its only $1 and way better than trying to decode these things ourselves. https://taxr.ai

Usually those codes mean your good to go! But if you wanna be 100% sure upload your transcript to taxr.ai - it'll tell you exactly what's happening and if there are any potential issues. Best dollar I ever spent fr
