570 Code on Transcript - Called Tax Verification Line and Got 45-Day Review Notice

Just wanted to share some info for those of you with the 570 code. Here's what happened with me: Step 1: Checked my transcript today and saw the 570 code for the first time Step 2: Called the regular IRS number first Step 3: They told me to contact the tax verification line specifically Step 4: Called the verification line and spoke with an agent Step 5: Was informed my return is under review for 45 days starting today Not trying to be the bearer of bad news, but if you have this code, you might want to call them to at least know what's happening. I'm taking care of my mom right now and really counting on this refund, so I'm a bit confused about what this all means... does anyone know if there's anything I can do to speed things up?

I had the exact same thing happen on March 15th. Called and was told my return was selected for a 45-day review. I asked what triggered it and they wouldn't tell me anything specific. Just said they needed to "verify some information." The agent told me not to call back until May 1st at the earliest because nothing would change before then. It's so frustrating having to wait with no information!

Thank you for sharing this timeline! It's somewhat reassuring to know there's a process, even if it's a slow one.

Was your return claiming any specific credits like the Earned Income Credit or Child Tax Credit? Those often trigger these verification holds. The 570 code typically indicates a temporary freeze on your account while they conduct their review.

Did they say what happens after the 45 days? Do they send you a letter or just release the refund? I'm asking because I'm in the same boat but nobody gave me any follow-up instructions.

I received code 570 exactly 37 days ago. My review period was also set for 45 days. After exactly 43 days, my transcript updated with code 571 (reversal of previous freeze) and code 846 (refund issued). My direct deposit hit my account precisely 5 business days later. The total wait from 570 code to refund was 48 days in my case. No additional information was requested from me during this period.

Did you ever find out what triggered the review in the first place? I wonder if there's a pattern to these reviews or if they're just random samplings for compliance checks?

I had a similar experience last year, but mine only took 32 days from the 570 code until refund. It seems like the timeframes can vary quite a bit compared to your 48-day wait. I think it depends on your specific tax situation and how busy they are at that particular time.

When you say no additional information was requested - did you try calling them at all during the waiting period? I'm wondering if being proactive helps or if it's better to just wait it out.

I'm on day 29 of my wait after getting the 570 code and I'm starting to panic! šŸ˜° Every morning I check my transcript hoping to see that 571 code you mentioned. I really need this money for car repairs and I'm so worried they'll find some tiny error and delay it even more!

Dealing with the IRS during these reviews is like trying to navigate a maze blindfolded. You know there's an exit somewhere, but you can't see it and nobody will give you clear directions. When I got my 570 code last year, calling the regular IRS number was useless - hours of hold time just to be told to "wait." I finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) to get through to an actual verification department agent. It's like having someone remove the blindfold - the agent explained exactly what triggered my review (a mismatch between reported income and what my employer submitted) and gave me specific steps to resolve it. Got my refund 2 weeks later instead of waiting the full 45 days. Sometimes you just need to talk to the right person.

I think there's some confusion about the 570 code that needs clarification: ā€¢ The 570 code itself just means "additional account action pending" - it's a temporary hold ā€¢ There are DIFFERENT TYPES of 570 holds - some are simple verification, others are actual audits ā€¢ The 45-day timeframe is the MAXIMUM they can legally hold your refund for verification without paying you interest ā€¢ You can actually request a TAXPAYER ADVOCATE if the delay is causing financial hardship The fact that they directed you to the verification line specifically suggests this is probably just identity or income verification, not a full audit. That's actually good news!

How do you know which type of 570 code you have? Is there something specific in the transcript that indicates whether it's a simple verification versus a more serious audit?

What qualifies as "financial hardship" for requesting a Taxpayer Advocate? I'm behind on rent and really need my refund, would that count?

This is really helpful information! I've been freaking out thinking I was being audited, but it sounds like it might just be routine verification.

Word of caution from someone who's been through this before (unfortunately twice, haha): Don't assume the 45 days starts from when you see the code. The 45-day review period actually starts from when THEY flag your return internally, which could have been days or even weeks before the code appears on your transcript. Last year I was told "45 days from today" when I called on April 2nd. I marked May 17th on my calendar as the magical day. May 17th came and went... nothing. Called again and was told "Oh, the 45 days actually started on March 22nd when we flagged your return, so your review period ended last week. Your refund should process soon." Got it 3 days later. The IRS and their timing... classic comedy of errors! šŸ™„

Does anyone know if this 45-day review thing resets the 21-day normal processing time? I filed back in Feb and my WMR was stuck on "still processing" for ages, now I got this 570 code last week. Idk if I should be counting 45 days from now or if this is just part of the normal delay?

The 45-day review period is separate from the normal 21-day processing window. Once your return gets flagged with a 570 code, the normal processing timeline no longer applies. The 45 days starts from when they officially begin the review, not from when you filed or when you first see the code on your transcript.

Thanks for explaining this! The IRS website is so vague about these timelines.

I was in this exact situation in 2023. Filed in February, got the 570 code in March, and ended up waiting until late April for my refund. The most frustrating part was that they never even contacted me for any additional information - just made me wait the full time and then released it.

My experience was actually the opposite. Got the 570 code, waited patiently for 3 weeks, then suddenly got a letter asking for verification of my dependents. Once I sent that in, my refund was processed within 10 days. So sometimes they do need something from you, but they don't always tell you right away.

Has anyone had success getting the 45-day review period shortened? Last year I was in a similar situation and really needed my refund for medical bills. Just wondering if there's anything that actually works to speed things up?
