E-Filed 2024 Return on Jan 16 Still Not Showing in IRS System Despite 24-Hour Promise
Filed my taxes on January 16th and when I check Where's My Refund it still says they haven't received my return. Starting to get worried since its been over a week. I logged into my IRS account today and got this message: "Refund status unavailable We don't have a record of your return on file for the tax year 2024. If you recently filed, your refund status will appear around: 24 hours after you e-file a current-year return 3 or 4 days after you e-file a prior-year return 4 weeks after you file a paper return" The IRS website says I should be able to see my status 24 hours after e-filing, but it's been more than a week now and still nothing. Anyone else in the same situation? I'm not sure if I need to wait until January 28th when they officially start accepting returns, or if there's something wrong with my filing. Should I be concerned that the system shows "We don't have a record of your return on file" after this long? I e-filed so it should have shown up within 24 hours according to their own message.

Tax professional here - this is totally normal for early filers. The IRS doesn't start processing returns until Jan 28th, so even though you filed early, your return is basically in a holding pattern. You should see movement in the system within 48-72 hours after the official start date.

Hey guys just wanted to mention taxr.ai - its this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly whats going on with your refund status. Its $4.99 but worth every penny cause it actually explains everything in plain english. Way better than trying to decode the IRS website lol https://taxr.ai

looks interesting... how accurate is it? like does it just read the transcript or what?

it actually does way more than just read it! It uses AI to analyze all the codes and gives you a super detailed breakdown + timeline. Even tells you if theres potential delays

Did you file with TurboTax? Sometimes they hold onto returns until the official start date.
