2024 Student Loan Offset - Are DOE Taking Tax Refunds This Year?
Getting mixed info about DOE student loan offsets for 2024 tax season. My loans are in default and I keep hearing different things about whether theyre taking refunds or not this year. Anyone actually gone through this already? Need real answers not just rumors.

Yes, DOE is actively offsetting tax refunds in 2024. The COVID-era pause on collections ended in September 2023. Your best move right now is to get into a payment plan ASAP - like today. If you get into a payment plan before your refund is processed, you might be able to prevent the offset.
